Watched the first episode, looks good.

Pretty much the same as Band of Brothers, but that's not a bad thing.

Well finished watching the last episode today couldn't stand to watch it with ads what a brilliant series not quiet as good as BOB but damn good! Very impressed there's some real touching moments and also shows the americans can be just as barbaric.

Ill be buying the series when it comes out on bluray without a doubt! If your watching on free to air tv each episode gets better and better

    very very impressed!!

As a general rule, the better it felt when you said it, the more trouble it's going to get you into.

Have missed them all so far, stupid shiftwork. Have watched BOB at least 10 times through and is still to this day my favourite box set. Im with you Grantlington not even touching it untill i can put the first one on at 7am an watch them one after another throughout a whole day.

Yeah BOB was better. Better characters and greater range of characters, and better acting.
I have read the book (also titled "The Pacific") that goes with the show. It is good, because it gives the battles the much needed context that it is lacking.

Without giving anything away from those that have not seen it (and I still have a few episodes to go) what surprised me was:

    a) that they quite graphical show the Americans being very inhumane at times, which is probably much more accurate but goes against somewhat the "hollywood" approach of the US being the saviours/church going country that it is supposedly is during these conflicts.

    b) how dumb the marines appear to be from a leadership perspective. I initially though after seeing the pelilu (sp?) episodes that surely they have "glorified" that side of things to make it more action packed and that they surely would not have just "walked" across the airfield, etc. But Channel 7 is also showing WWII historical doco at the moment and I saw the same event on there in real footage and it was that bad and also the number of casulties mentioned. Let alone those that died on guada canal I think it was to take the airfield, only for them to not even use it when attacking the phillipines?

    c) That while I knew of the war in the pacific I actually had no idea about the like of guada canal and iwo jima, etc and the scale of the battles because so much focus has been placed upon WWII in Europe. I have heaps of favourite movies based in Europe (The Great Escape, A bridge too far, The longest day, etc) but the only pacific one I have watched numerous times would be bridge on the river kwai and the aircraft carrier one at Wake island (forget the name).

Overall has been interesting but not as good as BOB and part of the fun factor was picking out all the bit parts by aussie actors from the like of Police Rescue and Sea Patrol!
