He was done for indecent dealings with a girl under 16, for all you know he kissed a girl in a bar who claimed to be 18 (a mate in the UK got done for the same thing, met a girl in a club and took her home, turned out she was 2 months shy of 16).

would you want somebody who had been convicted of this anywere near your kids or kids you are related to no matter how long ago the conviction was?
With most crimes after the person has done their time I would be willing to give them a chance as long as they hadn't done anything to me personally or my friends/ family, this is one thing I definately wouldn't take the chance with

Yes, some people have convictions. But it's also possible for people to be reformed.
Say a 12 year old kid steals a chocolate bar from a shop, should he never be allowed to have a real job because there is a risk he'll steal something?
not really but that doesn't change my point. I wouldn't want somebody around my kids (If I ever have any) or nieces nephews etc who has been convicted of any sort of offence involving children, even if they have served their time.
In most other cases I would be willing to give the person a chance unless whatever crime they had done had personally affected me or somebody close to me
