To celebrate my upcoming 40th in November, I'm heading over to Phillip Island for the gp in late October. Any feedback on where to stay and what ticket packages to get would be much appreciated.

Not sure about the GP - but for superbikes they have a 3 day pass + trackday after - cant remember the price, but getting on the track itself is worth it! esp if you can get your bike over there.

Cowes has fair bit of accommodation but it might be hard to find any vacancy. If you struggle with Cowes maybe try a house in Ventnor or Rhyll. Being walking distance from the main town is a bonus as the party in Cowes on Sunday night is awesome and the taxis are usually rather busy.
I stayed with a few blokes in house in Smiths Beach last year and that was unbelievable. It was only a fifteeen minute walk to the circuit from our front door with thousands of bikes coming past. I think we found that place through one of the local real estate agents or tourism group or something.
I know quite a few people deliberately stay off the island, somewhere like San Remo or even Kilcunda as it's considerably cheaper and less congested. But getting on and off the island during GP weekend is a pain, unless you have a bike.
As above, Cowes is the place to be on GP weekend. I stayed at the BIG4 caravan park just as you get onto the island. We had a car for the 3 days and wasn't really that bad getting to and from the track each day although a bike would have been pretty sweet.
Any of the grandstands around the track are good spots really. Even general admission will allow you to walk around it and find a nice spot on the grass to view the racing. We decided on the VIP village as it is likely it will be the only chance for us to get there for a while, so we thought we would make the most of it. The seats were great above the pits but the top end tickets (platinum i think) are above all the Moto GP riders garages. You can look at the teams all work on their bikes and the riders talking to their teams about race strategies and set ups which is actually pretty cool. You get to see the world behind the glitz and glamour of the TV screens and all the hard work that is put in to a GP weekend.
We got to meet all the riders and celebrities and get our pictures taken with them. The food was great and plenty of beer, although only a select few to choose from, but its all included in the ticket price so you can have as much as you like.
You can have a great time down there with any priced tickets but i thought i would share my experience so you can understand what you get for the extra money.

Stockdale & Leggo are one of the main Real estate people there but Stayz website will also be fruitful.
We have gone grandstand but prefer to be "on the fence" R.I.P. Alan Gill, just spend the first two days figuring out where you want to sit and get there early on race day with a fold up chair, take your woolies/full wets (serious, there was sleet during race day last year) and your sunscreen as the weather can be variable.
We do have a contact on the island who has a kitted out (toilet, shower) shed (approx 30m x 20m) 3 km from the town centre on 5 acres and has asked us to provide tenants for a very reasonable fee (two already booked). He likes a beer and a BBQ. There are buses to get around on.
They hung a sign up in our town "If you live it up, you won't live it down"-Tom Waits

If you can afford it, pay for a corporate/tent ticket, buy they water and feed you its not that much more expensive than a GA ticket over the three days. Having somewhere to go when its persisting down is nice too. Inside the track cuts out a lot of the crowds. Warm jacket and Benni are essential clothing items Siberia is called that for a reason.
Harvey community radio has a motorcycling show listen over the web here www.harveycommunityradio.com.au ,Facebook here http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Mo...34691323302991 yes I am the goose that hosts it.
Cool, I'm think gp vip village tickets for the 3 days, and touched base with a mate re accomodation, and looks like they have space for me to lob in with them :-)
Sat at Lukey in the stand this year and was awesome but looking down towards MG there is a pole right in the line of sight if you get the wrong seats. If your thinking of sitting there PM us and I look at the seat map and check which ones were stuck with it. Having a grand stand seat to retire to when you get worn out wandering around is a must in my book!!!
