    pool/snooker sharks...

righto, i need (want) a new cue for my table at home which has sparked this thread..

    how often do you play?
    do you play at home/out/both?
    do you play for money?
is there anything special you do if you want to improve your game?

I want to improve my game, and i seem to play well on my table at home, but when i go out it'll take me a good 3 games to get into the swing of things on another table..

I have to play pool or darts as my mates won't play me in table tennis.

I can play pool as well but not as good as T/T

My cue cost me about $150 I think.

have played in comps and every game we play for is for bourbons

yeah with mates, we tend to play for drink rounds as well when out, but a couple of times I've played for coin (small amounts, 5 maybe 10) and cracked under the pressure still yet to have a win when playing for coin..

not sure what it is but my game goes to hell once I strat thinking "shit shit don't want to lose that 10er" haha

I had a period of about eighteen months where I couldn't go wrong. Sheer brilliance. The pinnacle of this was when I cleared the table uncontested eleven times in an afternoon.

Then nothing. These days I'm lucky if I don't take an eye out.

It's all about getting your BAC juuuust riiight.

I have broken and then finished the game without the other person getting a shot on three occassions...

All three times on the same pub table, twice to the same bloke...

I was playing a lot of pool in a one table pub in a small mining town...

I may have been an alcoholic at the time...

i've sunk the black off the break twice ... i play that as a win ... best shot on the table.

some play it as a loss due to black ball sunk.

I've done it once. I count it.

Dropped four off the break a few times and was pretty chuffed every time.

Out of interest, what rules do people here play? Because we all know if you don't clarify them before the break, people can lose teeth.

I'm shit at the game, but there is a point between 3.0 and 3.25 drinks where I am fucking awesome at pool.
Anything over 3.25 drinks I'm shit at pool but just awesome in general.

the rules I grew up with:
    - no shooting backwards off the D
    - no pansy move the ball one cue butt width rule when the white is against the cushion
    - any foul is 2 shots, except if you recipient of the foul is on the black. 2 shots to set up and the sink is too easy.
    - any foul where the black is sunk is a loss
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

    Good old pub rules...

A couple of different versions of World Competiton Rules...they changed them slightly here and there and we used to have to study the rules to know how to win games...I've won competition games by doing some pretty rude things I wouldn't do in a pub game...

I've seen comp games lost because a person unscrewed their cue before the game was finished...instant loss..it was in the rules...

One version of comp rules you had to have a ball hit a cushion or go down a pocket or it was a foul....stopped you doing rude snookers by tapping up behind your own ball...

But bastard pool is half of the art. Setting up your own ball and leaving the white in a bad spot for them.

That was in the last "international rules" I read too. Good rule, stops soft playing your shots.

We had (Dad's edited) Winfield rules in our house, complete with blue pen amendments. Basically.

2 visits any mistake with the exception of striking your nominated ball and sinking the opposing ball. Some people call it the "advantage rule".

Game's not over until the black is down.

And most importantly, nominate on the black.

In-off on the black is a loss.

Usually penalties apply on the black.

And no faggy moving the rock around just because it's hard to get to.

Stella Artois - it may be the favoured fuel for european spousal abuse and give the shittiest headache of any beer, but it's like liquid luck. Found out quite by accident. (They ran out of spirits.)
