Have you heard that the PS3 is now open for hacking? Even 3.55 firmware.
Anyone else here got a PS3?

Meh, it plays games, I'm happy to pay for games to support the companies so they can continue to make awesome games, don't really care.
Goodluck to those who have a need however, would be interesting to read up on it regardless. Links?
PSB - It doesn't matter how right you are. If you aren't in with the crowd who thinks they are the in crowd because they post a lot, then you are wrong.

Chuck Norris is 1/8th Cherokee. This has nothing to do with ancestry, the man ate a fucking Indian.
For me, it's not about pirated games. I'm just happy to be able to use the PS3 as an emulator for N64 (which is already out and working), MAME, PSX etc. Hopefully PS2 as well. I have TONS of original PSX and PS2 games at home. Would be brilliant to play them again.
Also a dedicated .mkv player native in the PS3 will be great.

Can I trick my ps3 into playing hd video I've downloaded? It bothers me to no end when it says unsupported format..

May the force be a considerable distance behind you.
How are you playing the downloaded movie.... usb? PS3 Media Server via your pc?
What format is the video in that it won't play.... .mkv? .avi? I'm assuming mkv as you said HD.
First, get your PS3 wired to your pc (if it isn't already), then use PS3 Media Server:

You'll need to install MKV2VOB and use that to convert mkv's to.... erm, vob's. They should hopefully play then. Though not always

It doesn't take long... it's not a full conversion process. Just changes some files in the container.
I've gone the easier route and bought a Soniq blu-ray player from JB Hi-Fi which plays .mkv's from burned dvd's, as I couldn't be bothered stuffing around on my pc trying to get every single mkv to work.

Cool, a fellow geekThere's a big difference between a geek and a nerd btw the rest of you.
I've not installed the latest stuff yet, as I want to make sure everything is tested properly as I want to stay on PSN.
If anyone has a cheap 2nd-hand PS3 to sell though, I could use that as the Homebrew machine![]()

Yeah it has a usb input as well. Not bad for $100 actually. Quite impressed with it so far, has played all the files I can throw at it. Still use the PS3 for BD though.
JB have two Soniq models for the same price. One says it plays MKV, and the other says it plays all types of other files (mp4 etc). I made sure with the sales guys that the mkv box (which is in a bigger box to the other one iirc) plays mkv's AND avi, mp4, divx etc. before I bought it.
The menu interface isn't the best, but it does the job.
