I'm thinking if i cook in bulk i can kick out lunches while i'm at it.

Buy some campbells condensed soups (cream of chicken etc) and bookmark Campbell's Kitchen : Campbell's Kitchen Club Competitions

Go to the recipe site and select the soup product from the list, and you will get recipes that use the soup as a base.

Handy site for ideas that don't require you to carry lots of ingredients.
Intelligence and education are three sides of the same coin.

I realise that this cook book has been canned for being unhealthy- but it's meant for moderation!
Jamie Oliver's new cook book 30 minute meals is fantastic! I'll be buying my own copy when I move out as I love cooking.

Another thing that sounds a bit wrong is the packet mixes and side dishes you can buy from Maggi and the other companies. They take no time to cook and are quite good, but once you get the packet mix down pat you can make it from scratch just as quick and add/remove stuff you want.

otherwise if your really in a hurry and need to grab something for the microwave SunRice has a range of curry's that you can just chuck in the microwave for two minutes- they are surprisingly good!

Like darkfibre said, cans of soup are great as they have recipes on them. So do most tinned vegetables like beans and tomato puree's etc. Also pasta is a great quick food to prepare and super simple! You can get Bolognese bases and just chuck some mince in and Volia! A quick dinner!

Chicken Thai Green Curry, 2 serves:

1 x Can of Valcom authentic Thai Green Curry 410g. ) from Coles or Asian supermarkets
1 x 90g or so can (small) Coconut milk. )
    400gm chicken breast or thigh.
1/2 Cup of Jasmine or long grain rice.
    1 x tablespoon of oil.

    1) Bring to boil 1/2 filled medium sized pot of water, put in rice, cook for about 12 minutes (see packet), strain and put in serving bowls.
    2) Cut chicken into bite sized pieces while this is cooking.
    3) Put oil into a similar sized pot or use the one you just used (on hi heat)
    4) Put in chicken and fry until you can't see any pink on the chicken (u will need to stir it)
    5) Add Thai curry sauce and coconut milk and bring back to a gentle boil for 3 minutes.
    6) Pour sauce and chicken over the rice in the bowls.

Note, this is one of my favourite meals and is better than any Thai Curry I've had at resturants.
After u have done it a couple of times it is super quick and u can clean the dishes under hot water
    as u go.
Also u can try adding cut chilli or coriander leaves at the end if u want to impress or for added kick and flavour.
Also Kaffir Lime leaves and be added to the sauce when cooking (but don't eat)

    Spaghetti Bolognese...

Mince meat, a jar of Bolognese base, some veges...

    Cook in a big pot...

Eat your meal, portion out some in plastic bags for freeezing, leave enough in the pot for tomorrow nights dinner and place in fridge...

    This also works for curries...

if you havent cooked before, as someone else has mentioned the packet meals as they are a good base and its hard to stuff them up. Pasta and rice are cheap and easy to cook, and can easily be made into a main meal.

Get yourself a spice rack full of a handful of different spices. Its amazing how a few shakes can turn an average meal into a great one. Also, get yourself a good quality set of knives. Everything else can be shit, but get a semi decent set of knives. You will thank me for this later.

Another handy tip is to use the crushed garlic in a tin, rather than the clove of garlic many recipes call for.

jmoore is absolutely right! Decent set of knives is a must! We have really good knives at home that are 20 years old and still as sharp as the day my parents got them.
I cook dinner for my boyfriend at his house and they use steak knives for cutting everything- but steak....
Bloody Awful trying to make dinner and cut stuff up with bad knives!!

The Jamie Oliver cook book also has a list of utensils you'll need for basic cooking which is super handy

Dammit, you beat me to the Nandos call...But seriously, get yourself a toasted sandwich maker. perfect for when you cbf making anything proper. Just whack whatever you have laying around in between a couple of bits of bread, leave it in the toaster for a couple of minutes and you're done. Fuck all cleaning up to do as well.

Leg of lamb...bone it yourself, or get butcher to do it (fuck supermarket meat). So, butter-flyed lamb leg... stab it a bit and stuff the wounds with garlic. Coat with olive oil, basil and oregano (and salt and pepper), and just prior to a 120 to 180 degree oven (depending on how long you want to wait) squeeze on some lemon juice.

Own a meat thermometer (cheap), and when it hits medium rare pull the meat from the pan to rest.

Throw chopped onion and whole cherry tomatoes into the pan and crank up the oven until the tomatoes burst, chuck in some Balsamic vinegar and let it reduce a bit.

Okay, you now have gourmet dinner to impress a lady (with an appetite) and enjoy yourself, AND a weeks worth of yummy sandwiches with a home-made relish...win, win!

Kimchi, pork belly and tofu on steamed rice. Should take 15 mins from start to finish. Super easy and healthy, it reheats pretty well too.

Also pork ribs, char siew sauce. Marinade and put in the oven. Have it with shredded cabbage and carrots with a little dressing. Super easy and also reasonably healthy.
I'm torn between nuking the whole thing, and preserving it as an example of the sandiest vagina I've seen in a long while
Me: " some cop would take a photo of you the first chance you go over the limit and no one would let you merge and someone would have thrown a stubbie through your window and chased you the rest of your journey for being in pole position. "

It really is easy and minimal preparation...

The key is in the timing to get it all ready at the same time, and you even have leeway on this as you can wrap the roast meat in foil and allow to sit...

All roast meats make excellent sandwiches for days after...
