Hmm ... interesting ...
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IdJqG07orA]YouTube - Prius Driver's Frantic 911 Call[/ame]
This guy was advised to put the car in neutral but refused to do so. He later said he thought the car would flip if he put it into neutral at such high speeds (about 94mph).
But the Prius forums seem to think he should have been able to put it in neutral
Hmmmmmmmm ....

I acknowledge that the Toyota problem is a very real one. But it highlights a more major issue than faulty Toyota electrics. The number of fucking idiots on the roads. Car starts accelerating all crazy like? You have foot brake, hand brake, ignition, change gears, try applying the accelerator and then letting off, start ripping fuzes out... If the car has not stopped after trying these things, it's probably possessed by Satan and no call to the police will help you.

he probably got a speeding ticket earlier and thought it might be a good way of getting out of it

In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

Kinda like this: Washing Machine Forum - Compare Prices and Buy at MyShopping.com.au in Australia
When I found out what furry porn was, and that the number of people interested in it exceeded one, I stopped being surprized by random forums for inane shit.
couldn't agree more
Like seriously, every time you stop at your destination, how do you stop the
engine from running? .......so why can't these abominations do the same
thing when they have a stuck throttle? and no point blaming lack of
education, cos its so straightforward its not funny.
Yes it will save the world.
With it's Chinese batteries, Japanese capacitors, American circuit boards, English leather, Korean chassis and Taiwanese assembly.
And Australian dealership.
All hail the car that has caused more pollution by the time it reaches the dealership than a 70's 5.0L Chev has in 40 years...
The thing that cracks me up most about Hybrids is how much of a wanker car they really are. Honda make a hybrid civic that looks identicle to a normal civic. It does not sell very well. Toyota make a Hybrid that screams "I'm a Hybrid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". It sells better than the cheaper honda.
Hmmmmmm.

I'd imagine most Australian Prius sales are fleets. Most I see on the roads either have government or taxi plates on them. Perhaps Toyota offer better fleet incentives or cheaper maintenance? I know we have a few people who are into fleet management, anyone know if that's the case?
I'm actually rather partial to the idea of the Volt. (no homo)
As for wanker cars, I heard for some international green charity they flew a Prius to a celebrity via private jet. Can't be bothered looking for the details now.
Toyota offer massively better fleet sales than any other manufacturer, with holden doing a similar thing. Ford stopped going all out for this market in the late 90's, has slowly killed them. Want to know what the best selling "real" cars are, look at private purchases. From memory, mazda and honda do really well in there market sectors (much higher than camry/ aurion), small corolla gets a run from 3, golf and focus, and yaris gets spanked by , well, most hyundai's....
But as others have said, anyone with a clue how to drive would avoid a prius anyway. Natural selection i say. Needs more battery explosions....
yes, i am ignorant
yes, i am a prick
no, i don't care
you make me sick

I'd have to agree. As it is currently, if you want to do the environment a favour but need to have a car, you're better off getting something smaller and more economical and then using public transport/walking/cycling where possible. I hear the Prius uses powdered ivory as a form of dry engine lubricant, and dolphin tears for the wiper reservoir. Not because either is practical, but because they hate the environment.
Cheers sS, makes sense why the Corolla hit #1.

cars that have to lug around a couple of hundred kilos of battery are not the future. What if you owned a volt and wanted to drive to Sydney?
Battery exchange won't be happening for a long time yet, so at the moment you have something that is confined to short trips in cities. ie. a current electric car is about as useful as a scooter.
And the prius' batteries would be completely redundant if the engine was more efficient, which has been proven by just about every diesel car on the market.
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

You do know about the key difference between the Volt and most other hybrids, right? it's not about lugging around copious batteries. It uses petrol to recharge batteries like a generator, meaning it'll keep going exclusively on petrol charging the batteries without a plug in if that's what you need to do... As opposed to having the weight of a regular full sized petrol engine as well as the batteries.
Aside from that, globally most cars don't ever make a journey of equivalent distance Perth -> Sydney in the vehicle life time. Hell, most cars in Australia don't ever do that journey. And the argument is about as relevant as "What, you own Corolla? What if you find yourself crossing the Rubicon?" People should be buying a vehicle to suit their purposes. If an electric car does not suit yours, don't buy one.
misdirection towards electric vehicles the point missed is
environmental cost and financial cost of an advanced diesel < electric
functionality of diesel > electric
hence if you buy an electric, you're a cock
if only cars could be powered by hammering a keyboard... PSB would be sorted![]()

I thought there was still the whole problem with solar panels being recyclable, where all forms of diesel are either a finite and non-renewable resource or require valuable farming land that could be used to, I dunno, feed people.
