Question Saw an incident the other day in CBD

Just wondering, saw this thing in the city while drinking at Georges Pub:
    - Traffic stopped at the light and one car [hundai] smashed into another one[HSV]
    - The dude from HSV came out checked the back and said it was ok no series damage, got back in and drove off
    - Dude in the hundai drove off as well

    The question is:
    - Is there a correct procedure that have to follow, like exchange rego info, names, etc?!
    - Call the police?!

The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear...

Yep, no injuries and less than $1K damage and it doesn't need reporting.

Car parks are included mate, road or any place commonly used by the public.

Except that most times the cops don't want to know if it happened in a carpark as it's private property Unless it's major and there are injuries they wont do anything

Why would you think you have to report it anyway? The owners weren't worried - why would you be? Or what business is it of yours anyway?

No im not saying i have to report it, i didnt really give a s%*t about them, its just weird normally when there is a crash people stop and exchange details and such, but in this case they just continue on their way!!!

If its not your fault. Take pictures of with your cell phone. Not just of the damage but of the street. Even take picture of the driver. Because if you decide to put in a insurance claim later they will help. Sorry for the bad english btw

i can think of plenty of occasions where bikes have been hit or skittled and the car driver does a quick survey of the damage, makes it look like he checked on the rider and then takes off, would be nice to have witnesses take some interest like ]magneto[ has and actually have some details for the insurance claim.

in this case they spoke to each other and both drove off so nothing really to worry about, but keeping your eyes open for this stuff could save someone a few bucks one day when you walk over and say "hey, you alright? i saw the whole thing if you need a witness"

I ran up the tail of a guy in leederville once, wasn't watching and hit him at about 15kph. He didn't want to know, said don't worry about it and just drove off. There were scratched all over his bumper and I busted a headlight.

I later found out (After submitting a crash report, I was so innocent back then) that he was driving while on a license suspension and was being charged.

My brother rear ended a magna once in his land cruiser, when the light went green he followed the magna expecting it to turn off the main rd, they did. They then pulled over. Then as my brother got out of the car they took off. He did a bit of damage to their car with his bull bar. He figured they were unlicensed or no rego....... No idea how this adds value to the thread .........

So it was more a low speed bump than 'smashing' into the back of someone?

But didnt Melkor said if its not 3k worth of damage and no one was injured you dont have to report it?!
Plus will police get involved in something minor as this, i got hit by a bus years back {kinda ma fault} and they said "f*$k you take it up with the insurance company"
even tho i was injured and ma bike was almost a write off!!!

If you want to assist with your case when it comes to insurance claims or possible injury, you're still going to want to report it in an accident report.

you don't have to report it, you can decide on your own methods for each of you covering your damage, but if you want to claim insurance they will usually want a police report number, it may be under $1000 damage but if they just pop their head out and say she'll be right and drive off then it's $1000 or an insurance excess you have to pay for something that may not have been your fault, so you put a report in and the police track them down and it all helps with your insurance claim.

you can report any accident no matter how insignificant, you don't have to until that threshold.

some people don't want to be involved with the police and try to avoid the reporting process, these rules mean that they can do that, to a point.

happens more often than you think.
I was sandwiched between 2 cars once when some dopey fat bird arguing with her boyfriend rear-ended me into another car. The guy in front of me had a quick look at his car, told me he had no license so not to worry about it and left the scene. It made explaining the front end damage in the police report interesting.
