You want the new underground parking. 10 bike bays right next to the escalators. And a dry seat when its raining
[/b]
And rarely more than 1 or 2 bikes parked there. Everybody please use them so they don't decide they're not needed and take them away. Also there are a few more in the undercover park on the south side but they are in the western corner a long way from the entrance.

Cant see why you shouldn't be allowed to anyway (whatever the legality of it is).

You pay road rego the same as anyone else, you buy things in the shops next to the bays just like anyone else, you pay tax and fuel excise like everyone else, etc.

So long as you're not blatantly taking up all the bay so another bike can't double up in it, i don't personally see any problem with it.

I don't believe there is any rule against bikes parked in "car" spot, as long as you follow the times on the sign post. The normal sign posts never specify CAR parking written on it (other than those that specify BUSES or TOUR COACHES).
[/b]

My old man has a kawasaki nomad, ie, big mutha of V-twin tourer, and he was parking in the city, no bike bays, so he parked in a car spot leaving a paid ticket in his fairing. When he got back an inspector had left a nice little note explaining that he was legally not allowed to park his bike in a car space.
i have issues with this ruling
1) it does not say CARS ONLY
2) if we pay for parking, whether we are in a car or bike, are we not just renting that space on the tarmac? what does it matter that we are on 2 wheels and not 4. In fact by riding a bike we are reducing greenhouse gases and city congenstion so the city should be rewarding us??
3) oh,,,and there are sweet fark all bike bays in the city..

rant over

I think that inspector is an idiot. He can't book you anyway coz it won't stand up in court if you dispute it. Where there is no bike bay along the road, I'd park in between 2 cars, entirely in part on one bay and not straddling across both, making sure that the gap has space for either cars to move out. I'd never buy a ticket (unless it is a metered one) coz the argument is that someone else would swipe it or it can be blown away. I never have a fine so far

Cty of Perth suck for bike parking they've just added meters to all the bike parking in the open air parking area on Riverside Drive

There inspectors will try and book you fort about anything and most people just pay up cause it aint worth the fight for the $50 fine... its bollocks

Personally, I find that inspectors tend to be more forgiving with bikes than cars, unless it is an obvious offence like parking in clearway. May be it's their good nature, or may be the council parking policy for bikes are not as well-defined as for cars.

I got a fine about 2 years ago for parking in an ex-bike bay in Freo. The bays right next to HJ's have always been bike bays, so one night I pulled up for a my fat burger and fries cholesterol combo deal (upsized of course!).

When I came out there was a ticket jammed under the little lid on my fuel cap. I find out later that just a few weeks earlier they decided that this spot needed to be a 'Night Police' bay, whatever that is. So they half heartedly rubbed out the bike bay lines (still showing) and stuck a little sign on a pole 10miles up in the air. So now it's bike bays in the daytime (with no lines) and at 6pm all the Rangers swoop in and fine all the bikes still parked there. Brilliant $$$ scheme - change bays with no warning so you can fine everybody!

</rant>

It's ok, I'm still breathing..

There is no law that I am aware of preventing a bike to park in a car bay. And the bike bays accross from Miss Mauds? Its an easy solve - Used to frequent CBD and if cars were in the bike bays they got damaged. Strange how noone complains about a biker in gym gear bustin mirrors...

Thats what everyone does in NZ. And, all bike parking is free, in the few places where there are bike bays. ...And...bike parking in parking buildings is free! (in Auckland, anyway)

I was under the impression that parking within the CBD was free for bikes ?

Maybe we need to get a decision from the city of perth on this one..

surely their ' green city ' initiative with the hydrogen bus, parking inspectors driving hybrid cars etc.. would take some notice of our efforts to save on traffic congestion and greenhouse gas/fuel usage..
