Sidchrome Tools - have you ever taken one back for a replacement?

Well thanks to a super tight wheel nut on a Ducati we now have a broken tool needless to say the wheel didn't get taken off, don't want to wreck the socket as well.

Has anyone ever taken one back for a replacement and where to? I've been looking around the Sidchrome site and I'm none the wiser!

Do you take them back to a tool shop or somewhere like Auto 1 or do you have to send them back to Sidchrome yourself?

Yep have done in the past. Hence why I'll never buy another one again.

Last time they sent it away to get checked for excessive force before they would honor the warranty. Which they didn't.

boyfriend use to work for a tool store, and says they should warranty it, just take it in to a sidchrome stockist dosn't matter which one but you will have to leave it there for the rep to look at it and say ok, he says 90% of the time he would get them covered

ive seen guys come into tool shops and they get 2 options,
1- leave it at the shop and wait till a rep comes in to look at it.
2- deal direct with the supplier for a faster replacement.
ive heard that kc tools will replace pretty much anything as long as it doesnt look like its been used for something outside its intended use, so if your going to buy more sockets and accessories maybe give them a look in.
edit: tried an impact driver? although you probably dont want to go belting it, shocking it can be alot more effective.
not everyone wants to pickup trash from the side of the road, leave it for the crims and the junkies.

People hate me for this but repco. They are open 7days a week and do on the spot replacement. I regularly use a 1/2inch breaker bar with a 3meter pole to tighten down bolts on a 10tonne motor to 225nm+ and it has never had a problem. Also half the price. I use their tools daily and bash them. Their other tools (screwdrivers etc) are shithouse but their sockets are awesome. Again a lot cheaper, on the spot replacement and they are open 7days a week. I try to break them, they are excellent quality.
    Spoiler: show

Took a Sidchrome ratchet back to Coventry's as it was slipping under load, not covered, wasn't nearly as old as my Britool one which is still going strong after about 25 yrs, Old Sidchrome tools were great, modern ones aren't.

Can't help you here Stoney, I am not the tooly type; but this reminds me of something that happened to me a couple months ago..

Few months ago I got a flat tyre on my car and couldn't get two of the nuts off. After getting a couple of other people to try, I rang Ford and they sent out the RAC. The guy couldn't get the nuts to budge so he got a 1m handle out the van to improve his chances. He ended up snapping two handles before he said he couldn't get it off at all..

I wonder what he did with his snapped tools..

..I hope this was a cool story.. lol

jbb, I guess RAC should use "Snap-on" tools instead of "Snap-Off"

I returned a Sidchrome socket handle for a 12mm socket kit to a car accessory shop many years ago and he swapped it there and then. I guess they don't rate their own product so highly now given the responses I read about having a rep check them.

Not a dumb Q, but no it's not

The bike shops get carried away sometimes with a rattle gun me thinks.

Thanks Lit, wanna take mine back for me

Will take it down the hill today and go into every tool place on the way to Churchlands and see if I can get it swapped, he wants to have a replacement ready to try again ASAP. if not then I'll try Blackwoods on the way home on Monday

BTW - this one would be one of the good 'older' ones not a newie

thanks shan, that bar did the trick, still looked like it was bending a fair bit!!!! Finally cracked, I think the CRC that was put on it last night might have helped as well.

Andy has decided to buy one of those as well as some smaller Tbars and not bother about a replacement, he's had the bloody thing for 26 years and has well gotten a decent use out of it

    +1 for repco

I've been trying to break my repco tools for 14 years so farm managed to chip 1x pair of side cutters and break 1x ratchet (from constantly hitting it with a hammer)

Recommend using the other brands more than Snapon, Sidchrome and Stanley these days. Like JBS tools - made in same factory as Sidchrome.

Warranty process is far simpler, drop into store with faulty, exchange then and there for new item. Instead of waiting for rep to inspect or even send back to head office.
