So, you like rotories too? Listen to this!

Big, big fan of rotary engines myself, and the mazda 787B housed one of the meanest engines to ever be created. The 2.6L, 4 rotor, 26B.

This engine doesn't get used much, but it has made it into queen street racing's BMW drag car, and more importantly, this NZ based FD3S RX7.

The noise is just, just, well, listen and try and describe it yourself.

All that power is natural too, aka no turbos needed. Just insane.

what the hell sort of racing is that where you spin out, do a massive burnout so the other guy cannot see the track then leave them lost in the smoke to race off FTW? :p

I love the sound of a ported rotor and that quad is bonkers. Unfortunately they are LOUD and the the fuzz always look very interested in mine when I see them :|

LOve them, don't have one right now but will again...

Had an RX3 which started as my road car then I raced it at Wanneroo for 11 years winning 2 state championships. Also raced a Group A RX7 (Gen 1) in the ATCC round at Wanneroo.

I've had various RX7s (gen 1 2 and 3) road cars, my best mate currently has a Gen 3 race car which is for sale, would be a competetive car in the WASCC Street Car class but they are slowly killing that off.

    I used to have a S5 RX7 Convertible

It was an amazing car that pulled the birds like nothing else!!

Had great times till I blew the motor and lost interest in the project,

Made more money selling bits than if I sold the car complete.

Could be wrong, but pretty sure that's just some kind of demo run.

Noise is always the issue with rotaries. And the 26b would be far to loud even for most race scenarios. This makes me sad

I thought the quad rotor in the 787B was called 13JJ by Mazda and only nicknamed 26B by fans after the 20B was released in the Cosmo but I have been wrong before

I had a froggy green series 1 - stamped April 1978 - so one of the originals. I have an aftermarket 12A Turbo with a microtech management thingy.

The car had no spare tyre, fuck all weight and fucking flew. It was even faster when the engine blew the stock exhaust off... Loud & fast... Then the seals blew...

Now I would just like a Series 6/7 (FD), just to realise a long held dream.

    Thanks for the post.

The 767 had the first quad (13J-M and 13J-MM) and the 787B had the R26B (triple spark plug and continuously variable intake redesigned 13J). Madmike's is a dual 13B kit

Don't worry, the only thing I was sure of was the Kiwi-RE quad rotor kit (I was toying with putting one in my FC ) and I was pretty sure mazda designed their own quad but buggered if I could remember the details

    I miss my S1

Back in the good old days, cruising around with the bridgeport, exhaust got tested at 131db. Had tons of yellow stickers but just put the baffle plate in the exhaust, go over pits and pass, then remove plate in carpark near pits for the celebratory cruise home!

Might be why im kinda deaf

FDs are fantastic cars, had one as a road car for a while, pity they then lost the plot with the RX8

haha yeah my RX3 race car had peripheral port engines, back in the days with no noise limit at Wanneroo so totally open exhaust... I couldn't get the hang of earplugs so my hearing is totally stuffed (well that and years of having my head inside speaker stacks at gigs)

My best mate has had rotaries for years, back even before I met him 23 years ago, he had an RX3 with a PP 13B when I met him and the crackle and backfire from that on overrun was lovely to watch when chasing along behind him
He had pretty basic yellow series 1 RX7 back in the mid 90's which I got to drive for a couple of months when he went up north to Port Hedland when the briquette plant was being built, he made the mistake of telling me to "drive it like he did" He did appreciate the new set of tyres I fitted before he got home though
It was only a stock 12A and wasn't the fastest in a straight line but fuck did she handle corners like a go cart Wasn't the easiest for a 6'1''/125kg bloke to get into though

My mate is into rotors, he has had some INSANE cars over the years, most of which I've driven, but they make all their power at basically max RPM, which means basically full noise. I have helped rebuild a few and know how they work, I'm not denying the awesomeness, but for the road I just don't get it.

    ^That sounds proper awesome.

I do sort of miss my Series 5, despite all the grief and financial hardship it caused me. It was a sweet car when it was running.

A mate and I drove across from Melbourne in it.

I do not "get" drift "racing" in the slightest.
    Retarded idea.

However, I do want to get one of these and PP or BP it.
