Well fucking said Buttnekid, it gets pathetic when you're trying to give some useful advise and inevitably some e-warrior tries to start a one-upmanship with you.
If you agree with someone, good. If you disagree, good, say so, and give reasons why. There's no need to be a cock about it. If you have nothing useful to contribute other than snide remarks, I don't think i'm alone here in saying that you're not wanted, fuck off.

Without turning this into a noob hating thread, I have to agree.
I've been here for about a year and a half... In my first six months, I think I posted about 100 times tops... Probably closer to 30.
Why? I was learning. I was reading as much as I could, taking it in and finding out as much as I can... Not just about bikes but about how the site worked.
I know SFA about the mechanical workings on bikes for the most part so what do I do? I post on things I know about. If I don't know, I listen to others who do.
If I'm not sure, I'll say I'm not sure and this is my opinion. If I turn out to be wrong, that's great because I get to learn more.
Then I can in turn post that information the next time the question is asked.
I know we recently had a crackdown on the noob flaming and I think it was warranted... However it seems to have swayed in the wrong direction... Noobs need to be beaten back to the bottom of the pile again
The mod team have a hard job. No two ways about it... Dammed if they do and dammed if they don't.
I haven't really been here long enough to count as one of the old crowd... But I have noticed a slight change since the beginning of 2007.
The guys from 2006 (or before) need to remember that PSB used to be a group of mates on the internet. A small community of bikers and I hazard a guess that most people knew each other in the beginning... And even up to a few years back it wasn't too hard to meet and know all of the regulars.
Now PSB has nearly 7000 members... We have come a long way in a few short years and it would be impossible to meet everyone, still very hard to even meet all of the regulars... So far has the member base come.
Moderation has to increase, because the crap on here has increased.
It will never get any easier I think, but I think as a community we can still self moderate pretty well if we wanted to.
My point? I dunno... Just wanted to comment on Desmo's point and try keep it on topic too

Forgive me, but I didn't get that at all from buttnekkid's original post.
E-warriors have always existed...
Useful advice however has been on a steady decline (in my opinion).

Useful advice is still there mate, it just seems to be getting drowned out by people who don't have a clue arguin their invalid point until you want to stab them in the face with a spoon.

True..
Not saying that all forums will only contain useful advice, but it just seems to be getting diluted by hordes of idiots who would rather clutter up a thread... yeah... with a spoon.
edit: and also there seems to be a steady increase in the amount of people that post just for the sake of posting(and not actually contributing to a thread).
p.s This may have been happening all along and I have only started noticing it in the last couple of months...

Funniest thing in the world in my opinion is people who get arc'd up over words on a screen from someone they dont know and have never met.

Oh hai guise!
So in an attempt to represent the noob-ish community of PSB, I've obviously not been here a particuarly long time, especially in comparison to the heavyweights, but I think the mods do a fair job. It's a pretty shit rap and there's no reward whatsoever for them.
Bearing that in mind though, I think Thro's comments on moderation are valid. We're all (Well, most of us are) adults here, we can take a bit of heat, a bit of spice, and I think most of us can differentiate quite clearly between a serious post and a joke.
Some of us make more jokes than others. I'm one of those people.
Most of my posts are probably not the most useful in the world.
But you will find that most of my posting is done in YYY, where it hardly matters if it's not entirely useful aslong as it's basically on topic.
However, I do enjoy the proper content on PSB. Worklogs and the like, as well as reviews, etc, etc. The twowheelswiki is something I've been contributing to every now and then where I can. I have learnt a lot about motorcycles and engines in general since joining PSB.
I've also made several new friends, and even introduced a couple of people to the site.
So yes there is sometimes shite on here. But it's worth it. And the Mods do their best to cut down on it.

You've changed too browca04 (Cam).
When you started out here you were quiet, unobtrusive and frequently shat on in that "welcome to the crew sport, go get me a left handed screw driver" sort of way.
Then you grew into your PSB teenage years, developed a harsh tongue, cast aside your patience and you seemed to be more comfortable there, more inclined to contribute whatever you had to say. I don't know if it's a reflection of the e-role models you had or a outing of your real world personality but it will be interesting to see where your online "persona" per say takes you next because, and I don't mean to be too dramatic, the entire fate of PSB rests in the tips of your fingers and how you choose to create the environment for the next generation of "noobs".
So don't take that lightly, you're all role models.

So whats the solution ??
Si was saying that his perception of the mods is one of power hungry members that over moderate the forum creating a sterile envrionment ...
But no one likes being attacked by the vocal minority as you have both pointed out ..
How do we manage the situation ???
Where would you draw the line .. ???

You just hit the nail on the head ol mate!!!! and to me that is a sign that things may need fixing a little becauuse that is not what should be happening.
Turn the clock back 18 months and I was on here everyday, catching up with the goss and mates etc and frequenting wed and fri rides and posting my own - I haven't for ages, just because of the wannebe's that seem to frequent here now and post shite and the rides that are just out to prove some kind of point and end up being dangerous.
No I am not in anyway having a cry and saying 'why can't we go back to the old days when there were only a thousand or so on here, I am simply saying when you enter into a new social circle, you should not try to overpower everyone else's character, particularly those that have been around for a considerable time longer than the new comer.
Maxo, Nath's post just seemed to be jumping the gun, it seemed entirely uncalled for at the time, he has explained to me the reasoning why (that previous RBR threads turned to shite) and in THAT CONTEXT his reasoning was entirely justified, I just think he could have waited to see if what he did not want to happen actually happened before he jumped in with a threat to lock it, after all it was in Yada Yada..... the purpose for that area as far as I am aware is to some large extent to enable dribble.... as long as it remains quasi on topic.
Charger, I am not saying that at all, I am simply saying that a lot of new comers seemingly think they own the place and should be given some sort of recognition rather than earning it and continue to post utter crap.
I am not saying all mods or even most or each one of them sometime or other, acts all high and mighty, I am simply saying that being a mod is to provide a regulatory service to the rest of us, to keep the forum ticking over and not falling into a blatent free for all but at times, it goes too far to remove the fun.
A few posts above me have hit the nail on the head, particulary (and may I add as elegantly as always), Xspire.
I have noticed (but not said before even though I am not the only one thinking it) that a few of the chosen ones on occasion have conveyed to anyone paying attention that they think that now that have the stick of doom, they are somehow better than the rest of us. To me, that is no different from the bad attitude cop on the side of the road who thinks he is a king just because of his badge but he forgets he is a public servant.
IMO Deej, Hewie and Rooster (and the Dubbers) are the ones that can rule with an iron fist while the others should be a little more diplomatic and remember not so long ago they were like everyone else here.
I think my post has served its purpose, a few people (mods, noobs, old timers and anyone else) might think about their place and function a little more.
At the end of the day, the mods have a tuff and often thankless job and I on the whole applaud them for what they do, lets just try to not turn this board into a quasi Police state or rule by fear but rather moderate.
OH AND I WISH MY PROPER JOIN DATE COULD BE PUT UP..... damn hackers

I have a question for the mods if you can answer it, How many people that have reported an offense have actually pm'd the offender directly and just given a quiet request to leave it out of their thread or whatever.
Cos Im a joker and a goose as you all know but If I ever offended anyone I would apologise straight away if I was Pm'd. and I have actually sent pm's before when I did go a little off path to appologise.
Im also not always good at using the sometimes so my posts my sound more serious than they are.
Obviously Pm'ing some people will just result in them abusing you more on a pm, but I think the general majority would just say "sorry buddy didnt mean to clog up your thread"
So how many do pm first or tell you that they pm'd before reporting?
P.s I think the Mods do a pretty darn good job.

Being flamed isn't bad, its all about learning.
Things i have learnt from being flamed:
Their and there are not the same.
Bendy straw are fucking gay just like carrot sticks.
Not everyone on PSB thinks like you.
Use the search button, people don't like typing things twice.
Honda's are gay.
Everyone has an e-personality, you will find people are very different in person.
Women don't like being called bitch's.
Your opinion is no more important than the next person's.
There are 2 sides to every story.
The list goes on and on.
If you get flamed sit on it fart on it and blow it out the door then forget about it.
Everyone gets flamed. Some more than others, don't take it to heart.
Dont create a thread saying put your hand up if you hate this person.
If you do have a problem with another member sort it out between you via PM because people don't care about that shit and don't want to read it.... well most of the time... other times its rather amusing and we all get a laugh, except the mods because they have to fix it all up.
Why do people get so cut up when a thread or a post gets whacked?

@redfern, you're laying it out there, so I'd like to make a few points, I'm not having a go at you.
-How do we know you are a joker, you only joined a few months ago(see my last point)
-When reading threads, I've quite often had to skip your posts to keep the conversation flowing
-You've weighed in with incorrect information that completely changes the direction of a thread before(I'm thinking physics threads, here)
-Generally that stimulates conversation, but it also normally heads OT pretty quickly.
-You've hit a point where you are integrating better into the milieu of PSB. I'd suggest that most people achieve this with ~ 100-200 posts over the same period. I think that your post count is just symptomatic of the need to establish a personality here. This is fine, it's normal human behaviour, but politeness would dictate that when you are new to a social group, you don't overwhelm everyone with constant chatter, without consideration of the background social dynamic.
Like I said, not having a go at you, just stating the impression I have of you from pure online interaction. I'd love to meet you IRL, and no doubt will, you sound like an interesting guy. I am however, just trying to point out that you shouldn't have to need a pm to pull you up. I don't think most people do. If you sit back and observe a while, get used to the personae involved and identify areas where you can contribute without derailing conversations, then when you do post up, your input will be a positive contribution to the forum, rather than a bit hit and miss.

balance is required, between n00b bashing and older members just being cocks because they've been here longer. because both happen equally.

meh. we all discussed it in the mod room and felt it fair. was a good warning, if you took it too personally or whatever, that's your call. but then in the next breathe you complain about threads being derailed by shit posting - kinda contradictory?

i think you're full of shit. i've been with the mod team for about a year now from memory and i can tell you NONE of us act like that, think like that or mod like that. that viewpoint is generally seen from someone that's been whacked for a fair and reasonable matter, but the person just can't take it as such and feels victimised. whoop-de-doo.
