    thermonuclear war?

noticed in the news another iranian nuclear scientist has been knocked off. thats got to piss you off mightily if you are iran especially since its not the first.

Iran nuclear scientist killed in car bomb | Perth Now

what do you think the chances are of us seeing a thermonuclear exchange in the future? you know how to us, well me anyway it always was usa vs ussr cold war and we were all safe cos of the mutually assured destruction deterrance concept. unless israel pre-emptively strikes iran they will certainly develop nukes in the next couple of years. seems the choice is full bore escalation of conventional war right now or accept the muslim world arming themselves with thermonuclear capability.

offing their scientists just buys time which is better than war right now. regimes come and go but seems the delaying strategy is not long from failure.

We're seeing some gunboat diplomacy and some sabre rattling at the moment.

I believe Israel wants to bomb Iran, but they know, as does the US that Iran has put its facilities out of reach of normal weaponry.

    Conventional war might come about.

Ultimately - its a pointless fight. Even if Iran lose, then what? Another so-called 'rogue'state gets them in another 3, 5 or 10 years. Same again?

The ONLY way to stop this happening is for the US/Russia/India/China/Pakistan/Israel/France/Britain/North Korea/New Zealand and whoever else is part of the club - to stop making the weapons, and actively seek the destruction of the existing stockpiles.

But for the time being, avoid holidays to the middle east.

So you believe if everyone gets rid of their nukes, no one else will feel the need to have them?

No way will there be an exchange of radioactive presents, they both know that if there were to be a war then the consequences will be pretty high.

Then again, given the "right" set of circumstances an unstable fruitcake could let one go...

I wouldn't blame Iran for stocking up on Nukes.

Considering the USA is quite happy to invade sovereign countires for bullshit reasons I be worried too. Especially if I had a oil supply to protect. Then they have a neighbour who has nukes.

have you heard of the madman strategy of foreign relations? maybe this is what iran is going for except their position is one of relative weakness so their enemies dont really have to tip toe around them.

seems to me that when your neighbour is blantently carrying out assassinations of your scientists, it is tantamount to a declaration of war and it couldnt be anyone but israel they arent being very subtle. in terms of national pride iran must want some payback real bad.

Madman theory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Madman theory was a primary characteristic of the foreign policy conducted by U.S. President Richard Nixon. His administration, the executive branch of the federal government of the United States from 1969 to 1974, attempted to make the leaders of other countries think Nixon was mad, and that his behavior was irrational and volatile. Fearing an unpredictable American response, leaders of hostile Communist Bloc nations would avoid provoking the United States.
im also kind of thinking medium to longer term, since the cold war ended the threat of nuclear holocaust is not something people worry about anymore. but since the cat is out of the bag technologically speaking, given enough time maybe its inevitable a set of circumstances will arise where a nuclear strike happens again.

i mean is iran and their middle eastern mates serious about destroying israel as they have repeatedly claimed? nothing will do that surer than turning it into a radioactive wasteland.

i dont know thats necessarily true, entrances and exits to an underground facility must at some point come out on the surface. destroy access and everyone is entombed in their undamaged facility with no air and nothing to eat, as we well know from mine disasters.

One side will finally get sick of the other and we will finally have peace in the middle east. Peace, silence and radioactive dust as they will have scoured each other from the face of the planet. Not before time, I'm sick of hearing about how someone over there declares jihad 'cause someone across the border looked at his camel funny. Good riddence to the lot of 'em, stop cluttering up my newsfeed with your insane bullshit.

I do find it humorous that the US that has nukes feel they have the right to tell other countries that they can't make their own. The worlds police eh.

if it weren't for the niggling environmental issues I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep if an Arab state bombed/nuked Israel off the map and into oblivion. not saying the Arabs are blameless in the messy shitfight that constitutes the Arab/Israeli conflict, no siree, but Israel's belligerently nationalist "fuck-everyone-else-this-is-our-sacred-turf-just-ask-the-UN" attitude shits me to tears sometimes.

I dare say The Mossad probably have me on their shitlist after this post but fuck 'em...not like they would think they could assassinate any Hebrew/non-Hebrew dissenters around the globe with impunity is it?

kind of yes, we have had atomic war (fission bombs dropped on japan). thermonuclear specifically refers to fusion bombs, which are orders of magnitude more powerful.

fuck john lennon, imagine someone detonating a 100Mt thermonuclear device on a major modern city of 10 million+ people. a circle of diameter from joondalup to bunbury incinerated by a gamma radiation wave moving out from ground zero at the speed of light.

Unfortunately, it's so full of nuts the whole region is like the universe's largest fucking Christmas cake. I'd turn the ME to glass in a heartbeat if I could do it without fucking up the rest of the planet. Seriously, if you're prepared to risk nuclear destruction over two fucking books of fairytales that make 'Where's Spot' look like credible investigative journalism, well fuck you.

    ^

We'll continue to hear about Iran producing nukes for a while now, until it escalates to "ARE WE UNDER THREAT FROM COBRA COMMAND IN IRAN" at which point gijoe will swiftly invade Iran to save the world.

Biological warfare is a little more hairy imo.
