"Once you can have people more frightened of disorder than tyranny, it enables you to do almost anything you like so far as legislation is concerned." Chief Judge Antoinette Kennedy, 26/3/2010.
"The State must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation." Adolph Hitler, Mein Kampf

Lulz.
Pretty much any other country in the world, there would have been some mass head stomping dished out by the police at the very least.
Although I personally think Tony Abbott is douche of the highest order, I fail to see how his comments could in any way shape or form be construed as inciting race riots.
hmmm, i see pollies, i see journos, i see police...the few protesters i see seem to be just kinda standing there in the back ground like they watching a over blowen ruckus
euphoric, FZ1

Whole thing was triggered by the mad monk opening his mouth saying the aboriginal tent embassy in canberra should be moved on. How is this fucker still leader of the liberals?
Australia Day shame
On the funny side thoug, JGill lost one of her shoes and I quote from the above link :
After Ms Gillard was bundled into a waiting car and whisked away, a protester displayed one of Ms Gillard's blue high-heel shoes, which had fallen off during her hasty exit, and shouted: ''Gingerella, come get your shoe!''
Hahaha what a call
''Gingerella, come get your shoe!''
hahahaha! fair dinkum classic!

Aboriginal protesters reportedly plan to sell Prime Minister Julia Gillard's lost shoe on eBay to raise money for the tent embassy.
The PM lost the shoe in yesterday's ugly scenes outside a Canberra restaurant as she was dragged through a a group of Aboriginal rights protesters.
Activist Pat Eatock now holds the shoe as a trophy, and says the PM can't have it back.
"This is going on eBay. We are going to see if we can get some money for the (tent) embassy", Ms Eatock told News Ltd.

Any other country in the world, they'd be sitting in a cell by now.

Seemed to me the Police were having more trouble with the media camera crews than anything.
Havent watched a lot of the footage however.
They hung a sign up in our town "If you live it up, you won't live it down"-Tom Waits
I've seen bit of footage from each news provider (Ten, 9, 7 etc)
And so far when camera men and photographers have been there- the coppers have just told them to move back or away- so they don't get hurt.
I agree that protests are definitely necessary to prove a point and get awareness across. But no one is going to listen to your cause when you bang on window and ruin a ceremony that honours people that contribute to society and save lives.
I think Gillard did the right thing to take Tony Abbott with her, otherwise she would've had a lot of bad press.
