Toy guns, point me in the right direction?

    Hi all
I'm trying to put together a costume -- I need one of these; you might've seen them in various movies & TV shows. Australia has some fucked up laws when it comes to toy guns, cap guns, dart guns, etc. which make it rather difficult. Anyone have any idea where I could get a toy that could be modified to look like this?

    FN-P90 submachine gun

    Cheers!

Wellington surplus have some rubber/plastic training guns. Basically rubber imitations. I know they have an m16, ar15, ak-47 and a steyr. So maybe. Will be expensive though I imagine.

You could import an airsoft gun in without the internals, I hear Red Wolf Airsoft ship in pieces, but that's rather risky for a costume.

Or this - 1-2-762 21in Toy P90 Machine Gun W/ Battery Operated Sound & Vibration Airsoft Guns Toy Store Kapowwe $23.95

Unlikely, i owned an M4 airsofter when i was living in the UK and wanted to get it sent back to oz, WAPOL made it clear in no uncertain terms it would be totally banned and that it would be intercepted when it got here

Something to do with the firearm regs and it resembling a 'real' military weapon

May end up having to draw it up on a couple pieces of solid cardboard - sandwich styrofoam in middle for width - and then paint on the details.....or blow up (no pun intended) a picture of one to right size and print to stick on each side.

They are mighty unhappy about real looking toy "weapons" these days - if it's for a private party then you should be ok toting it at the residence (be sure it's not visible in car/sticking out of backpack on a bike) but I've seen police remove toy guns from people on Halloween in city etc due to safety concerns.

Now why didn't I think of that. Hell of a lot easier than importing anything. Thanks!

Welcome - I go to a lot of costume parties and being trained well by a Scottish mother try not to spend unnecessary funds lol

Usually cobble things together with what I have at home, a few cheap odds and ends from Red Dot & the like, plus a bit of creativity

    Good luck with it!

I guess the difference being that is an inert display model whereas mine fired 300 bb pellets per minute.

    It was such fun. Sigh.

I saw a toy gun get confiscated in Sydney. Getting a P90 would be difficult.

A carton of beer, some pvc tape and some black spray paint:

tbh if it's just for a costume party, no one really gives a toss how real your gun looks.

If it's a 13 year old's birthday party, get a rubber gun from wellington surplus

So under the firearms regs it would have been classified as a firearm, paintball guns used to be in a similar boat here in WA until a few years ago Airsoft are classified as a prohibited import by customs

Yes it is, apparently you can import a bolt action airsoft gun into Australia if you have a firearm license, and get this, you store your BBs separate to the airsoft gun in your safe like a real firearm. Fucking lol.

Pictures the copper coming to house to inspect for 'safe storage' steps on bb pellet in the carpet. Tasers drawn, suspect incapacitated and arrested. Later charged with serious firearm offence, failure to safely store ammunition.

Mind you, if you've got a lathe and some basic machine skills, you can build your own stirling machine gun.

Agreed. If you don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a resin model from wellington surplus just buy a nerf gun, modify and paint it.

Worked great for my Malcolm Reynolds costume a few months ago.

None straight out of the box.. I've read about a few people modding existing nerf guns to look like a p90 though. Google search should bring up a few guides.
