Just wondering what models of vehicles cops get around in these days, just had 2 of WA's finest roll up to our offices in an unmarked Toyota Camary, what other cars will they get around in?

unmarked non-traffic cars could be anything really. pulsars and camry's were pretty common a few years back when I lived with a cop. also the obligatory commonwh*res and falcons. (although i vaguely remember hearing the ford contract was not renewed or something?)

    probably plenty more too.

No amount of genius can overcome a preoccupation to detail.

99% of the unmarked cars are Comodores asnd Falcons, I have seen them driving Camry's, but thety are mainly driven by Detectives.

The ones I saw a few years back was the red camery with Undercover Plods in it parking at the golden arches and getting free feeds.

WAPD have been using a number of cars over the years. The ford ute/panel van has been the standard police patrol van although there are some Mazda Bravo light 4v4s.

I'm sure you're probably more interested in the plain cars and they break down like this.

The ones that are authorised to pursue (which doens't mean the other ones wont) are the big sedans. Predominantly the Commodore, for some reason they dropped the Fords (even back in 02 when i was still in). However don't be supised to see unmarked Falcons again at some stage.

The boss cars tend to be Camrys or Magnas, and in 4x4 Landies and Patrols. If there's a shortage of vehicles you might find guys getting out in these to do inquires, although they shouldn't be doing traffic stops / pursuits in em.

There are also any number of specific or special purpose vehicles. I've seen Ford wagons OKA trucks and black with black tint Landies with 5 really large guys seated in em (dont fuck with these guys).

There were/are also a number of exotics over the years. I've driven both SS and XR8 unmarkeds back in the days of v8s. I know before my time there were Telstar tx5 turbos, and would you believe Datsun 200B Turbos.

I remember a really old guy showing me his pursuit ticket once which was endorsed with "authorised to drive 351GT". Now them were the days.

In terms of UC cars those are even less obvious and unusual. I know of Honda preludes, Nissan Bluebird SSS, WRXs and even a blade getting used.

Those cars are not really going to bother you unless you're dealing drugs

The only rule i ever saw was the cars were always current model. Cause even though the police are in the business of fighting crime, it's still a business, and cars devaluing and loosing money like they do i suspect really unusual cars like older models or real exotics are both cost ineffective and potentially a health and safety issue.

AU is when they got dumped (the sedans at least). I once chased an HSV through the backstreets of kalgoorlie in an unmarked AU v8 Falcon. He killed me in the straights but at least I knew how to corner and where the spoon drains were

similar to the reason they dumped the v8s? Touchy gearboxes and too much power so that the WAPD couldn't be trusted driving them?

It was poor driving training that caused the crashes that determined the removal of v8s from the fleet. But that i'm sure is an arguement for another thread.

I knew the old man wasn't pulling my trumpet. He said he was watching them - as he had nothing to do at the acadamy that day and did mention the AU

Not nessecarilly - I believe it would depend on if the car is a pursuit car or not

I park my bike at the rear entrance to Curtin House, and I notice an interesting procession of cars leaving the place.

Even notice two of the lads getting off on a patrol in an unmarked Holden Crewman ute!

It had the steel wheels with all the holes though...

I did see a police Camry pull someone over on West Swan road just recently - looks like they had alot of trouble trying to pull them over because from the front/rear view mirror just would have looked like a normal car flashing the high beams - not until you see the POLICE on the side.

Oh and you usually can tell due to the antennae/comms devices on the cars - not much way to get around having aerials to communicate, so have a look next time a few UC pursuit cars do have anumber of antennae scattered......

    But again not alwaysssssssss

I still think there should be more bike cops on random bikes - so that drivers get paranoid that all bikes are cops and dont try and kill us

I thought, that according to "The West Ausi" paper, new undercover cop cars this year were going to be SV6's?
