    What's in your pants?

I picked up my Draggins which were lying on my bedroom floor, and was just about to insert my leg into them when I spot something exiting the bottoms and go scuttling across the floor.

I quickly despatched the scuttling thing, to discover it was a spider! Does anyone know what sort of spider it may have been? My knowledge of Arachnids is limited due to being a Pom and not having to deal with the poisonous little bastards you get here!

I'm no spider expert but I would guess a Black House Spider. So named because they are black and are found in houses ... and are a spider.

    They are not very venomous.

Is that a picture of the actual spider?
Black window spiders don't tend to wander around.
Looks like a brown huntsman to me. They can bite but are not considered a big deal.

I was out one day and there was a huge lump in my pants. Turned out to be my underwear.
Friends are like potatoes, if you eat them they die.

Big and dark??? Seen the Sydney funnel web?

Anyhoo, WA's most venomous spider is the red back. Related to the black widow. Wont kill you but has a VERY painful bite.

    Nah, that's cot death.

:edit: Just looking at the configuration of eyes and mandibles, and the colouration of the legs, I'm going with a white tail spider from that photo. Failing that, a wolf spider. They are both prowling hunters rather than wait-in-web spiders and move around a lot.

Neither are particularly venomous; however there are anecdotal cases of necrotic bacterial infection at the puncture site, presumably caused by bacterial colonies growing on the fangs.

Beaten to death by Starfish. This has potential to be another awesome/sickest joke thread. Now what was the last one I posted last time that got the other one closed?

My colleague who has some expertise in spiders says "It's not clear, but from the image my guess is Zodariidae, one of the jewel spiders.
Jewel spiders are harmless vagrant spiders."

I looked up Zodariidae in Wikipedia, seems it may have been looking for ants in your pants.

The Zodaraiid ground spiders or ant spiders, are a family (Zodaraiidae) of small to medium-sized eight-eyed spiders. They are found world-wide in tropical to warm temperate regions, though there are relatively few species in North America.
Some zodariids are ant mimics. Although ant mimicry is quite common in spiders, the form it takes in the zodariids is unusual because, although each species bears a morphological resemblance to the species of ant that forms its prey, the resemblance is not particularly close. It is enhanced by the spider's behaviour. The spiders live in association with a nest of ants of their prey species, and use their mimicry to enter and leave the nest unmolested (if the ants detected them as intruders they would mass to repel and perhaps kill them). The spiders walk on only the three rear pairs of legs, and if they encounter an ant during their forays into the nest territory, they touch their front legs to the ant's antennae in the same way as another ant would with its own antennae. If they have already captured an ant, they then offer that towards the challenging ant, which inspects it and behaves towards the spider as if it were another ant carrying a dead conspecific away from the nest (a common behaviour among ants).
It is likely that the spiders also derive some protection against predation from their similarity to the ants, since ants are unpalatable to many species that eat spiders.

I'm fairly certain it's just a brown huntsman, they can get fairly big but are relatively harmless. We used to have them everywhere on the farm. How big is it?

All spiders just need to stay the fuck out of my life, give me pussy fleas anyday.
