    Mid May
Saw a note in the bottle-o this morning.
Once it is all worked out, stores will drop prices once they start receiving stock they got at the lower prices

Alcopop manufacturers dont HAVE to lower their prices back to pre-tax times.

but market competition will probably see that they will.

stock comes in on a pallet, goes out 1 by 1. so yeh it will take longer to get rid of the higher priced stock than it did to buy it in.

Cartons of stuff like bundy and beam have short shelf lives, and you should see how much of the stuff comes through warehouses. They'd be through it in a week or 2. Some stores might not be, but the warehouses would.

Ok semi from inside the business, when the tax was announced the big chains like liquorland/woolies etc (of which i am a part) put their prices up within 2 days as you mentioned, the independants didn't put theirs up right away but were forced to because of the big chains.

Since then we have been buying stock at the new taxed price and until we work through that within our warehouse (coles) there is not chance that they will sell for a loss-As Bendito said.

As to your shelf life comment generally the burbon premix like beam come into out warehouse with a 6-10 month best before date (some don't even have that just packaged on dates) and the big chains buy enormous amounts of this so it will be a while before things start to come down, however if coles was to do it right (which of course they wont) they should start to phase in price reductions as the more popular rtd's are rotated out of the warehouse

Independant stores which have smaller supplies should be able to reduce their prices quicker dependant on how much they sell.

EDIT: i forgot to mention that we got a store communication last week telling us that liquor land was going to be phasing in reductions but a further communication this week has said that they wont be doing that so yes they are profiting hugely from the delay

It's disgusting that the price will take so long to drop. The price went up as soon as the tax came into play, even on stock bought at a cheaper price.

The stores made more of a profit off cheaper bought alcohol but they wont take a little loss for a couple of days to pass on savings to the customer.

don't tell anyone i told you this but...

liquorland as a company is actually $8 million in debt to CUB and Swan because they wouldn't pay their bills on time so unofficialy we are pretty certain that they've decided to prolong the price hike to reduce with the debt

You must be new to this whole taxation thing...

No doubt most of the price rise will stay put, due to "Economic conditions" or some such shit.

So are the producers going to spread any good will back to customers, after all they will be refunded the extra taxes paid by us, and they will profit from it.
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

Nope the distilleries are instead donating the money that they recieve back from the government into anti binge drinking campaigns although they do not have to declare publicly how much they got back so they could quite easily skim off the top

There is no way that whole 300 million or so is going back to anti drinking campaigns, and the breweries would be lying if they said that. We, the consumer essentially paid the tax through increased prices at the bottle shops, not the breweries...

Stuff like bundy and beam premixes, the warehouse would go through 20 pallets a week pretty easy. The warehouse isnt that big, so there isnt that much stock on hand.

THE MONEY SHOULDN'T GO TO ANTI-BING DRINKING CAMPAIGNS
It should go to something legitimate, like a charity. (I also hate seeing these rethink drink adds that are paid for with tax I pay)

have you been to the coles warehouse? its enormous-the new one near the airport not the shit one, and realistically the warehouse normally only goes through 5-10 pallets or so a week (dependant on specials etc)
