Woman's tennis and grunting

Just watching the woman's tennis and have noticed Azarenka every time she hits the ball she makes a sound like some one is beating a squeeze toy to death with a baseball bat. It was very off putting and I can only imagine how distracting it was to her opponent. Any one else find it tough to watch this? I could just turn the sound down but that's not really the point. Was funny to hear some one in the crowd giving it back to her when she tried to do an interview after the match. I know she isn't the only one who is like this, is there any rules regarding grunting?

Not hard and fast, but I beleive sharapova (I think) was told to shut up, as there has been complaints made against her.

It's been measures at 103DB, the same as the noise limit at barbs.

I know one of the Venus sisters put a complaint in against Sharapova a few years ago and she was warned, it seems now that it's just the norm for the European ladies to squeal. Wonder if a game has ever been stopped because of it.

My parents and I no longer watch the tennis as we calling it "grunting" now as it's all they ever do. It's been raised multiple times and many complaints have been lodged.. but I don't think much has been done to help the fact all that happens is that horrid grunting sound....

I seem to recall that stomping your foot while serving in table tennis was banned because it made it hard for your opponent to judge just what you had put on the serve.

Haha, depends if they are still bashing balls about in bed as to how much grunting they will be doing whilst in the sack!!!

I doubt I could put up with the screeching. Body's pretty tight though so you could over look that. Just read on wikipedia that the tennis federation is looking into it, just like they out lawed stomping during serving.
