No great surprise there.
Bottle shops are more profitable than pubs so they are purchasing pubs just for the bottle shop side of the businesses.
Coles are doing the same thing.
Fuck them.

Changed the laws a couple of years ago. Don't have to be hanging off a pub to be open on Sundays anymore.

That depends on the pub, or the bottle shop, tradionally pubs are more profitable because they have much larger margins.
Bottleshops have smaller margins but are much easier to operate.
I wish I could make more money in bottleshops becuase having a few of them instead of pubs would give me a lot less headaches.
Of course in terms of Woolworths they are doing very well with Dan Murphys because they have such huge turn overs with a very simple set up. makes for easy money.

massively disappointed in this news. I really like it there. Granted, I dont love the place, but I love the variety of beers.
In fact, one of the great pleasures in my life has been heading down there during summer for some chili beer.

yeah thank ALH/Woolworths for sucking the life out of Western Australia. nothing like another "refurbished" classic, well loved by locals, pub done up in stainless steel and purple/maroon decor for metrosexuals to crack on to loose women with tramp stamps. hurrah for homogenisation.
