    Work from home?

The Mrs is Pregnant with our second child, We have a 2 year old boy.

When he was about 18 months old we put him in childcare and she went back to work, to pay the bills. He got (among plenty of other things) Viral Conjunctivits, Chicken Pox, Broncitis, and eventually Pneumonia (all in about 6 months).

The Mrs ended up taking more time off then actually working, and when he got Pneumonia she quit.

I Vowed that he should never return to daycare again, as watching your son get tubes shoved in him is frightening.

Since then we have been looking - and applied for - heaps and heaps of "work at home" jobs, and seems that most of them turn out to be a scam, or require some kind of down payment before they "Set you up".

Im fresh out of Ideas, and have applied at the mines, which is stressful for us being a growing family.

I thought I would appeal to the PSB community for ANY FKN IDEA of some sort of secondary income.

A second job is not really an option for me at the moment, as I work 6 days, 70hrs a week.

Yes prostitution is out of the question :>

    Halp?

You do realise that this is a vital function of childcare, don't you? And taking time off with a sick kid is all part of parenthood.
We had a pox party when Zach had chicken pox.
Also, the socialisation a child gets at daycare is vital to their development.

Not necessarily a requirement of day-care but yes, children need to to learn social skills. Mothers (and dad) groups, play dates etc all help with this.

agreed with D'Art. socialisation is essential, but not limited to day-care. with a sister as a child-care centre coordinator and a sis-in-law also in child-care, i know what really happens daily and would rather socialise our kids ourselves with other parents in the area, play groups, etc, than dump them in a child-care centre.

I Understand Desmo, Everyone has had chicken pox, that I could handle. But watching my son barely breathing on a bed while TRAINEE (ffs) nurses stab needles in his arms and tubes hanging out everywhere was distressing enough for me to stop Daycare.

Dont worry about my sons developement, he still has plenty of play dates / socialising, and is doing very well at the moment in all regards.

My fiance (sorry for using the term Mrs prematurely :>) is a qualified beauty therapist.

We dont have the space or money to set up a shop from home (rental), and tbh they are a dime a dozen anyway.

We are building a house due to be completed in June, same time as our second baby.

Just a note - what were you getting at with the extra education g0zer? Just don't see the point as we need money - but in the future I'm sure she will.

I have a friend who does professional make ups as a part time job, for special occasions like weddings, some uni student design fashion shows, birthdays and so on... seems to provide her with some decent additional income.

Another friend also does cake baking... makes fancy cakes, cupcakes and so on...

Once you have done a good job, word of mouth can spread pretty fast..

Can she do any of her beauty therapy stuff from home? seems like it can make some decent money as my GF seems to pays alot for her skin treatments.... maybe your partner can do basic stuff like cleaning and what nots? just suggesting

wasn't getting at anything just offering a left brain option, i appreciate studies doesn't help your immediate cash flow problems. but if you are forced into unemployment by circumstance then adding to skill set could be useful down the track noting that raising a family is a long term thing

Thanks, I appreciate the thoughts all the same, but at the moment it is something for when the kids are in school, as Education also costs money.

Maybe a harebrain suggestion here, but could check with tafe to see how much it would cost for a Child Care Course? yes, there would a costs associated to it, but as gozer said, it would be a long term investment, (would Tafe study able to have study allowances?)

Child Care Course: Diploma of Children's Services - TAFE Course - SEEK Learning Australia
Child Care Course: Certificate III in Children's Services - TAFE Course - SEEK Learning Australia

night packers at supermarket? when you are home and after given birth?
post office? I have friends who work from 2am to 10am sorting and delivering mails?3

    add: mail box drop offs
make stuff to sell at sunday markets? jam/cakes/sweets/biscuits/etc....
I just remembered my friend and his family used to make beer holders at home after work too......

I considered it, but growing up with a father that was constant FIFO, I would NEVER do it to my son for an extended period of time.

If you'd like, PM me your name and ill have a look on the system to see how your application is going.
I work within Recruitment / Resourcing for BHP.

Depending on site and role, some of the rosters can be pretty darn good!

The nightfill idea is a decent one.

A mate of mine's wife has recently had a baby... He works as a chippy in the day (she stays home and looks after bub). She goes and does nightfill at the local Big W from 7pm and he looks after bub for the night. Its obviously not tremendous money, but it seems to keep them happy...

Believe it or not but she applied for all night fill jobs around our area and heard nothing back. Also it is getting a bit to late in her pregnancy to get a job which requires repetitive lifting like that (not sure exactly how it works as I have never done night fill), but would be fine for after the baby is born.

Might have to give the night fill another shot anyway though. See if there is something suitable, cheers.
