You DIRTY Rat - warning manky pic

Had a bit of a smell in the house on Thursday, couldn't pick where it was coming from, Friday arvo got home and I was summoned to the air conditioner (split system on the wall) as the smell seemed to be coming from there

Pulled it off the wall, tipped upside down, filters out, shake the sucker as best I can.... NOTHING

the smell was familiar, I was thinking dead rat, but where??

Anyway put the unit back on the wall and only place left was the cover to the power supply, off it came and there it was, jammed in between the cover and the wire terminals

little guy had jammed his front foot into one of the terminals for a but of push no doubt and then dropped his back foot onto one of the others POOF...! dead rat, must have blown a hole in his back as it was leaking Rat Juice.. eeew fuck, on with the gloves and a pair of long nose pliers and pulled him out in 4 bits, must have been there 3 or 4 days

He must have squeezed through the small hole where the water pipe runs through the wall behind the unit, it's tiny but I guess they can squeeze in tight spaces

Ahhh rats & power supplies.
I remember back in my copier repair days peeling one out of the bottom of the power supply.
F'n stunk to high heaven & while I was pealing (yeah pealing as it was part stuck part puddle) the receptionist was looking over my shoulder eating HJ’s saying "ohh so that’s where the smell was coming from" I was gagging!!!

Then she complained because one of the guys in the office sprayed his aftershave on the filter to try & get rid of the smell
"Now the office is going to smell like Fred/John/whoever"

Another guy I worked with had 1 get his foot caught in the drive chain & get dragged throught the fuser unit.
Heat & pressure = cooked flat rat ............

When fixing an old stove I pulled the front panel off and found a mummified mouse between the clock and the controls. Nothing tasted right after that until I lashed out for a new stove :/

I've had exactly the same thing with both rats and mice, chewing wiring and electrocuting themselves and chewing the drain hose off so that the collected condensation ran down the inside of the wall. The first time was quite a repair job. It was a couple of summers ago when it was really dry and I assumed they were sniffing out the water and then partying once they got there. I ended up putting rat poison in the air con and then pulling the cover off to clean out the dead ones every week, or more often if the smell became apparent. So expect the whole rat family back for a repeat performance.

If they are rancid currying them is usually the only way to make them palatable.
