R.I.P

Unfortunatley this weekend has resulted in 5 bike accidents I have heard so far ranging from light to serious

I hope everyone keeps on the ball when out on thier bikes as the holidays bring out the worse in drivers trying to get everywhere quickly and without payibg attention

Heard on the radio yesterday morning that it was a fatal on Rockingham Rd Munster. This is my stomping ground.

Last one in the area turned out to be the boyfriend of one of my students.

If anyone knows the name of the person killed, could you please PM me.

Shit I hope it wasn't one of mine.

RIP

Is it true that R1s can become a little light on the rear end and step out when being ridden hard ?????????

Anything with a similar amount of stomp as a R1 (pretty well any modern litre bike you care to think of) can become a handfull pretty quickly if not given the amount of repect they require.

Nah, far to underpowered... they step out cos they handle like shit!

Any bike can step out if ridden hard enough... seen a '96 ZX6R and even a VFR400 come out of corners sideways.

Don't want to sound too pessimistic, but has ANYONE heard from Jason (BlackICE)?

I have dropped a PM into his account, sent an email, but as yet...no response. I have his mobile number (somewhere at home), but not on me here at the mine.

As I said, don't want to think the worst, but PLEASE, has anyone got his number?, heard from him?

Steve

Ok..just saw on the Dunsborough thread (11/12 March) ..... Jason (BlackICE) posted a reply on 27/2 stating that he was not returning to Perth until Thursday (presumably 9/3), and he had a buck's party to go to. Said he wouldn't be going to Dunny...preferred the antics of the party.

So, hopefully that plan is firm, and he may have had internet issues at work. Best news I've heard since Sunday anyway.

Update 2:....Jason posted on Friday (3/3) that he was riding to 2j for lunch..which means he is back in Perth. FUCK!

RIP buddy.

I was wondering why the lamppost had a bit of a...bend in it when I went past the other morning. Rather long skidmark heads straight for it, the bend in the road is only a gentle curve for those who dont know the road at all.

Wasn't really going to post this information, because I didn't want people thinking that I was grandstanding on a topic that is near and dear to us all. But sincere thanks to Gryphen for showing me the value of "trying to save a least one life" in our lifetime. I have already done that...long story, many years ago...something to talk about over a beer some time.

However, I digress.

Today, I was speaking to a young girl (lady) in our HR department at Head Office (Perth), and the topic swung around to the fact that I fly home tomorrow night, and she asked if I was going to be riding my bike during the next week. We all know the answer to that one! She then went on to say, "Please be careful, my boyfriend's father lost a very close friend in the early hours of Sunday morning". A cold chill went down my back as I asked her for more details.

She went on to say that this young fellow came home after a day out (I forget what he was doing), but he finished up going to bed earlier than he normally does. Apparently he couldn't sleep, or woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. Hopped out of bed, and proceeded to declare that if he couldn't sleep he was going for a ride. The rest, as they say, is history.

I told Suzi how I was worried about a good friend of ours from this community, until he popped up this morning to say....you know the facts by now.

So, it is a lesson to be learned. Don't kid yourself about riding your bike. You need to be at 110% ability and concentration. Anything less, and you really do place your life in jeopardy. Think carefully when next you throw your leg over your steed, are you really up for this? If you decide no...then I thankyou for having the guts to admit your own limitations. There are enough distractions, and hazards out there, without us presenting ourselves as a hazard.

If this makes you think twice next time you turn the key, then I have done my deed. Thankyou.

Godspeed my unknown friend. I am sorry that you made that decision. May your life save someones elses.

Cheers

Steve
