    I never had the chance to meet him, but I saw the effect amongst my (and his) friends that his passing caused. Must have been a great guy.

    Marc Bates (Scumbag) was a heavy set bloke who when you first walked up to him was a right gruff bastard, well that's what most people had thought, until they actually sat down and talked to him. He really had a heart of gold.
    We all saw his riding develop over time on his Monster, GSXR1100 and his GSXRThou, he really loved getting that wheel up (once he figured out how)
    Stories abound about times when Batesy assisted & gave unexpected help to riders on their first time group ride.
    In October 2003 Marc was taken from us when a car pulled in front of his bike on a group ride.
    His funeral was attended by an amazing convoy of bikes and cars.
    Marc left behind his wife, his 2 daughters and a shitload of mates.

    We miss you mate.
