if it uses the old gas then use they will charge the earth, if you can find the old gas. Otherwise if the system needs converting they will charge through the arse as well.

    What car/year?

Gas converted or not? I.e. has it been regassed before?

If not you'll need the conversion ($$$$) if it has already been done by previous owner it should be not too expensive...

There should be a stamp/plate somewhere certifiying wether or not this has been done

I doubt converted, but from what I am hearing, it's only about an extra $80 or so for the conversion.

EDIT: I just need someone to do it asap.

you can't just regas it as it were. It lost gas, it has a leak , quoting the Montreal protocol " though shall not detroy the earth and though shalt minimise gas leaks to fuckall". Hence the leak has to be repaired and the cost must go up.

    sorry
that'll be $40 for the advise.

check plate on firewall in engine bay, should be one there listing refrigerant gas type - i.e. R12, R134a. if converted, will be a new(ish) plate added listing new refrigerant.

really doesn't matter what gas is in it. If you can find someone willing to part with R12 for less than $50 a kilo you will be lucky beyound belief and if its R134a is still has to have the leak fixed, the drier changed out, evacuated and charged again.....

What he said. Its actually illegal just to "top up" the gas. Source of gas has to be found and fixed 1st.

I know it's SOR but he did my car not long ago before I sold it. Cost just under $100 had it been old gas was quoted $140. Super cool aircon.

where i work the apprentices do it as part of their schooling. Instructors teach them how to gas cars and you only pay for parts. i can always ask when they are free? And its close to Midland too.
