Westside huh,

well i have a VZ ute, me want a decent deck, some splits, an amp to run dem there splits, a sub (12 inch if it will fit behind seat or if it can be installed next to petrol tank under tray) or two 10's behind each seat and a good mono amp to run dem there sub(s).

I really need advice on the sub issue. I want MB Quart reference series splits, a good alpine deck and a good alpine amp to run splits, MRVF 345 maybe, but it is the base issue I need advice on. If i had a sedan, I would put two 12 fosgates and a fosgate mono amp to run, but room is limited on the ute so i need advice.

Alrighty:

I listen to a variety from Powderfinger to Metallica to doov doov depending on mood, I like however shaky deep bass rather than punchy hollow bass (if that is the right descriptions to use).

The stereo gear will come with me so I dont need the IR steering control gadget unless you can do it any better than the $175 I have been quoted for it.

No I dont mind using the jack location, I can simply have it somehow affixed into the cargo area.
I dont have an i-pod but would like the system to be ipod capable as I have squillions of songs on i-tunes on my pc, so I may grab one shortly.

No i drive the car not watch DVD's hehe but I know you have to ask.

I would also like an opinion on whether using a quality hi-lo converter, i could get away retaining the Blauplunkt 6 disk in-dash player and not suffer to much loss of sound quality.

Mate, I have a pioneer DVD player for sale... Had it in my Monaro, which I only drove 7000ks in 18 months, yes seven thousand... As you know I have now bought a Subaru Liberty, which has a Mcintosh system, 14 speakers etc.. so there is no need for the deck.. If your interested PM me and I'll show ya it... I also have the little pocket thingy that was installed underneath the deck due to the original being a double din deck...

Hopefully I'm not too late but I have an Alpine deck that I control my iPod through and it sucks. You will be better off with one of those adapters that plugs into your cigarette lighter (about 30 bucks on eBay).

The problem is (and this may only be my deck, so ask the question) that you can't short cut alphabetically. So if you have 300 albums and you want to listen to an album in the middle you actually have to sort through 150 albums first!!! You can't just skip straight to albums starting with K.

This means lots of time not looking at the road. As one of my friends said. It's brilliant having 3,000 songs at your finger tips just before you crash!!

Correct. But you can get to K in a couple of quick spins of the slidy thing.

On my deck it takes about 1/2 second per album. 60 albums and you've been looking at your deck for 30 seconds!!!!

There may be better decks out there now but I would never recommend mine to anyone... and it doesn't have a clock!!!!
