Another dual trade Elec / Inst here. Our apprentice does his through CCI and I know he gets the shits with how they run things. Seems CCI is used where you do an apprenticeship with a big company eg any mining oil & gas etc. The only other option is EGT (electrical group training) where they will employ you and labour hire you out to companies. This is worse as you will be working all over the place used as cheap labour and not much variety of work across the trade.
If you can stick with it for 4 years the rewards are there.

Wazcat: I don't know if Apprenticentre and CCI are the same place; I think they're different so EGT isn't the only other option. I did my apprenticeship through Apprenticentre and I never had to deal with them at all. They signed me up and if there was a problem with payroll, I went to the companies pay clerk. Apprenticentre had nothing to do with my pay, hours, etc.. only schooling, and even then TAFE threw me a letter once every 3 months to let me know when I should turn up

One day, maybe, you will all be as good as me.

My EW license says "All Electrical Work"

My advice? Get a job where ever you can. Some people say "Fuck EGT" but if they are offering you an apprenticship? take it.

I've just taken on a kid who is turning out very well already so i can't offer you a job. but if you want any advice or some work experience gimme a call.

Callen. 0422 522 540.
