Absolutely document everything, and keep copies of any correspondence via email, phone etc, also if she is making up porky pies, have a witness on hand to verify what was said, or how you/she behaved, especially if you are even thinking of approaching this 'woman' in person. Be prepared, as she probably won't be, and any documentation will only add credence to your case.
I am not sure if legally you are allowed to record conversations without the other persons consent, and if you can use the conversations for evidence if they do not give that consent.

I agree with Tenchi, the person who is prepared with evidence and has the bigger book will win.
I would accept only the money being returned, not the laptop, if she was dodgy to start off with, how can you even trust that there will not be problems with the laptop also. She is trying to get out of handing the cash back over, as she has probably already spent it by now

I have been a single mum for years now (she looks to have a partner!), and yes it would have been good to have nicer belongings, or to be able to provide better for my girls, but I wouldn't ever consider doing that at the expense of someone else by ripping them off through criminal behaviour by using deception, fraud and theft.
People like this make me seriously pissed off!!!
