Medical centres and doctors in Rockingham and surrounding suburbs
Morning everyone,
So I'm having a lot of staff not bringing in doctor's certificates because they believe that there are next to no doctors in Rockingham/Safety Bay/Warnbro etc. I'm really trying to crack down on the amount of sickies people are taking so if you know of any doctors in the above suburbs, please let me know so I can type up a list of doctors so they have no excuse.
This may be harsh but I have at least one staff off sick each week and it makes it tough when I only have 7 staff to begin with.
Cheers
Louise

If you go to one of these, you can do a search that captures almost all the GPs:
GP Down South
General Practice Directory
Unfortunately, the Rockingham/Kwinana Division of General Practice doesn't have its website up and running yet, but if you call them on 9236 7773 they can probably send you a list.

I don't think its about morals. Basically, no managers want to work in this shop right? So every 3 months, the business manager changes the managers around. So I have stood up and said that I will work there permanently because I believe its disgusting what they are doing to these poor people that work there, they can't bond with their manager because they know that they will be gone in 3 months anyway.
So I'm there basically till I resign but there is a certain girl there that just HATES being at work and as much as I try to get her motivation back, she just pulls sickies. It's not like I haven't tried and I have told them over and over again that I'm not going anywhere but still this continues to happen. So I've tried to fix the moral issue but it hasn't worked so I'm trying something else.
And before you say it, it's not that easy just to fire someone anymore.

don't you have a sickies policy?
my old work places all did.
2 sickies in a row = certificate
## of sickies in a month = certificate.
failure to provide = formal warning and cause for termination

Trouble is if the person isn't a regular at a surgery you can't get in, no matter what.
I tried to get Andy a doctors appointment a few weeks ago and rang 20 doctors in a 15 kilometre radius, managed to get an appointment for three days later when he didn't have the problem anymore anyway
They all said sorry we're not taking any new patients, silly me, should have asked if there was a waiting list i.e. you can eventually get in as their current patients die off.
Can you organise with a surgery that any of your workers can go in to a certain surgery if they need a certificate??? That is one way of making it a little harder for them to avoid.

Hrrmmm thats a good idea, I will look into it
As for our sickies policy, ours is kinda the same - 2 days off in a row or a day off before or after an RDO or weekend - sick note. But you see, these girls come into work with the intention of being sent home. They don't wear any make up to work and just sit there looking miserable so either myself or my assistant manager sends them home. Thing is, they only seem to do it when I'm not there because my assistant manager is an absolute walk over. See, if they come into work and get sent home, then they don't have to supply us with a doctor's certificate but the way I see it is if you can actually get out of bed, have a shower and then drive all the way to work, then you must be well enough to be at work unless you fall ill at work (stomach bug or whatever). Anyway, I'll definately be looking into organising a doctor for the team because its getting beyond a joke.

bring in a little DIY makeup kit, so you can tell them to clean up and harden up.
gotta be stricter with them. if they don't want to be there, fire the twits.

yeah i wish it was that easy. I am strict on them but there is always a fine line between strict and bitch and I don't really want to cross that line. Also, its hard being strict on people when they are all older then you and YOU are their boss. I'm the youngest one in the team so I've had the whole "why should I listen to someone who is young enough to be my daughter" shit but I'm rising above baby I've only been there a month so I have much work to do to get them whipped into shape but its not everyone, just 2-3 people.

Lulu, what shop do you have ? it's not a red-dot is it ?
I used to run a dick smith store, and i understand your dilemma.. it's hard to bring the rest of the team up, when you've got dead weight holding the boat down..

just do what i used to, pull them aside for a coffee at lunch time.. explain your situation.. and say to them " if you're not happy, I'm happy to let you take time - unpaid.. to go look for work elsewhere.. "
I did to a couple guys working for me, and they left on good terms.. ended up coming back to me because everyone else out there were.. " bastards " and ended up being some of the best people I've worked with..
sometimes, it's just peoples perspective.. and yeah, retail and customer service is the ass end of the world some days.. did it for 15 years..

actually, one place i worked had that happen LuLu, and the manager used to say that "you look well enough to work, you're here. if you really think you're unwell you can go to the doctors, otherwise if you just want to go home it'll be unpaid leave."
it worked and brought that particular sick day abuser into line.
