Another bump, straight to the top.

Would appreciate thoughts from any mining industry recruiters on this. My wife and I are currently living in Kalgoorlie. She works at the superpit driving 793's and I have a somewhat slack uni job after a bunch of years in the mining industry.

We've been doing some talking and we're starting to think about leaving Kalgoorlie (sometime in the near future) and looking at both of us doing FIFO work. We could rent our kalgoorlie property out and ideally pick up an awfully cheap rental property through family to live in while in Perth, so it may be the best financial option for us.

Are there sites out there that will look at / take on couples as operators in a FIFO situation? My wife is an excellent operator but I do not have any site experience (not driving anyway, heaps of mining industry exposure through my IT work though), but I do hold a current HR license and occupational first aid certificate and I do like to think I'm a pretty quick attentive learner.

I guess at this point we'd like to know if it's a realistic expectation to find a site that would take us both on before we go starting to uproot ourselves from Kal. Any advice from people that have dealt with other couples wanting to do FIFO together would be awesome.

Cheers muchly

Difficult to find FIFO for couples. I work with quite an few and after the first couple of months it was expected of them to relocate. Big company's just love creating false infrastructure's unfortuately.

But do try ringiing HAYES/ Mining Recruitment Services they should be able to give you the full low down.

for people who are chasing a foot in the door, a good way to do it is to become a pit tech.
only problem is you have to work with geo's.
no qualifications are needed but there is a course you can do at tafe.

generally not overly well paid, but if you can stick it out for a bit, and are not a moron, the other departmets should give you a chance.

there are heaps of pit tech jobs in the paper, and no, we arn't chasing any up here at the moment.

There is no such thing as an accident, people make mistakes............ the trick is to have enough space to make your own, then identify and avoid others making theirs.

Anyone coming up from behind is either breaking the law............. or enforcing it, the first have to look to rule No. 1, the second have my full attention and courtesy.

Rule No. 1 : NEVER make contact with a vehicle in front of you, it doesn't matter what they are doing, it is YOUR fault........... geddit!!!!.

Choice, wouldn't matter if it was a shit of a job, Strath is sitting just next to the best riding roads in SA.

Pybar have been operating at Parkes (rio-tinto) and Cadia (newcrest) and seem to be preferred contractors for those sites...........
