The era of tax free havens is over.
Cards linked to accounts in these 33 (or so) countries raise "red flags" when the account is accessed from Aus.
The ATO announced in 2005 (or 6 I cant remember) that this was their latest target - its on their site cant be f**ked linking it.

I have worked offshore O&G for 12 years the last 6 in Africa.
Write this down.
23AG is your friend.

A few pre reqs.
Be an employee.
Your company pays local tax on your behalf (most often considerably less than Aussie tax)
Earn one day off as REST AND RECREATION LEAVE for every day spent in a country that doesn't have a dual tax agreement with Oz.
Spend 90days outside the country.

Now the kicker is that if you do 30days, earn 30 off, then do another 30 days on IT COUNTS as a solid block - you are tax free. All 100% legal

It took me nearly 8 years to find out this info - lesson learned you get what you pay for with accountants.

Cant give you contacts but i can tell you that Norway has a lot of oil and a lot of aussies working there. Spent the last 7 years moving back and forward between perth and oslo. In a different business though, was running bars and part time circus freak.

Most of the aussies there are engineers. Never met one that did welding or other trade work.

But I can say that the country truly is filled beautiful women... and they earn a LOT of money. Expensive to live, but most of your expenses are covered when workin with the rigs.
