my megabuck (10 years ago?) mitsubishi hifi stereo vcr seems to have died - press play - whirr clunk stop ditto FF and rewind.
still able to received a send a tv signal - so im guessing its the transport
anybody know any good repairer to try first ..im fond of it...i dont want to bin it....just yet

Yeah ok - maybe one day - but I think I'd need a better VCR, mine is starting to eat tapes randomly...
combined VHS/DVD players are now rediculously cheap. The drama with trying to fix old ones is finding parts which usually involves scavenging from other machines if you can find one.

How many VCR tapes do you have that aren't on DVD yet? Heaps of us have got the equipment to do VCR to DVD conversions; just pass along a few tapes to each person and they'd all be done in a week.

could just be a rubber drive belt (broken or stretched), crack it open and have a look what happens when you put in a tape and press play.....
then if it is a belt, take it out and ring around for a belt, i have used orings as well to repair m DVD / stero / VHS but thet dont always work .... as some belts are square
but be careful some places like to charge big bucks for a 20 cent orig belt.....
ring a few dodgy repair men / shops for a cheap beltor off to shoddycheap for a look at there oring boxes
OH be careful when u open and turn the power back on there's electricry in there too.......

VCR, haven't had one of them in years, still have a few tapes at home though that I can't watchReally should chuck them
