Anyone here in the engine rebuilding game? I've got a 2002 RS Impreza with a cooked engine.![]()
Alternatively, can anyone recommend a rebuilding place?
Thanks,
Juffy

It is worth remembering that when a person dies, his or her funeral contributes to the Gross Domestic Product, even though they are no longer there.

As has been no doubt suggested to you, get a front cut (of something, US 2.5 motor no doubt)... it'll probably be cheaper, but dodgier![]()

Bleh... US motor less compression due to the shit house fuel they use. Great for turbo but not so good for NA. There's a scoobie wrecker in Maddington.
Might be a good time to consider the RS to WRX conversion.

Long story short: thermostat failed, engine boiled and threw all the coolant out the overflow bottle while I blissfully didn't look at my temperature gauge. At least one of the two heads is warped, and she won't hold coolant. It's not seized, but I obviously can't trust the pistons/rings so it's either rebuild or new engine time.
It's tempting, believe me. I've got various insurance issues which wouldn't be helped by an unofficial WRX conversion, but I'm going to investigate it anyway to see if I can pull it off. I've got a friend (Pk - you should be able to work out who) who's looking for a 2.5L NA for me, but if that route fails I'll go hunting for front cuts.Might be a good time to consider the RS to WRX conversion.[/b]

Karma: my drivers seatbelt just broke.... wtf. It will no longer hold any tension![]()
*ponders if he should keep driving or not*

2.5 turbo FTMFW!!!!
There's always front cuts comming in from Japan though. I looked at dropping an EJ20T in a Forest GX. Cost including harness was around 4k from memory.

I would love to have a turbo Scooby, but the realist side of me wants to know how much I'm going to get rogered by insurance if I do. I have a pretty chequered driving history (including 3 years totally uninsurable) and driving a non-factory turbo conversion just means they don't bother with lube. When I was in the market for my RS (3 years ago) I was quoted $3-3.5k/yr for a $20k WRX, although it would be better now.
I also do not want a car that spends half its life in workshops being fixed, which means I won't touch an engine if I don't trust who's selling it to me.
