Where are those dongas?
Ladies and Gentlemen of PSB.
I'm hoping that through the combined wealth of knowledge
we have here that we may be able to assist another.
Does anyone know what is happening with the old
accommodation units being removed from mine sites, etc?
The 4, 6, 10 and 12 person units that were in use before
the advent of the ensuite modules. There is a bloke that
is actively involved in the provision of "Crisis Accomodation"
and the thought is that these would provide a handy and
quick solution. So, any ideas?

I think they would probably be retrofitted and sent somewhere else. You could turn two donga type rooms into 1 ensuite style accom

Telfer is currently retrofitting most of our existing dongas from six rooms into three ensuited ones. Would guess that a lot of other sites may be doing the same!

Rio Tinto is ordering a few thousand units in the next few years. We're not able to get enough people in at the moment as it is. So most dongas will be staying.
They are good crisis accomodation, but i believe some companies already provide that by leasing and being able to transport it anywhere in 3 or 4 days.

Yeah, good luck to Rio with the new ones. I believe they're going through Blueridge to have them built. So far they'd have to be some of the most disorganised and inept pack of chumps I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with.
The trades people are good, but the general management wouldn't know which way to sit on a fucking toilet.

Know a few projects that are turning to European (read: Italian) sources for donga-type units. Cheaper, stackable, flat-packed for shipping. Like a giant 3d jigsaw.
Local market cant keep up.
