That thousand buck bonus explains a lot.
Sometimes when I walk into the Osborne park DC to drop off the company mail wearing my bike jacket, I sometimes get asked the question if I'd like to be a postie. They had had the sign out the front advertising for months.
Still, retaining staff is a state wide problem, not just aust post.

What job is perfect? I have had jobs that are wayyyyy worse than this. And as far as accidents go.... I take my time, get mealies and do regular splits and it's all good. Same principles apply from normal bike riding.
The manager at Rocky DC is pretty good. Highly focused on OH&S and supportive when things do go wrong.
And the bonus is just that, a bonus. The real bonus of having people sign up is no more splits . (Still not sure its a G).
Esquire...they train you first then get you working, so looks like the 2 weeks will be doubtful, but contact AP anyway, can't hurt...13 13 18.
1BIG12R...The EBA hasn't been resolved, but we are still getting the bonuses/pay rises that were settled on. Another 4% pay rise in August.

I'm interested in this as well, I've had my P's for about 7 months and RE for about 2, I'm out of school and not really doing anything, just looking for a better job to save up money for a new bike.

kiknet: As long as you don't mind a 4AM start, go for it. It's not going to hurt to try it on for size, and with the pay rate, you'll be waaaay richer than all your mates...

I been a postie for past few weeks now and i think its awesome
Doesn't matter if you don't know the area at all because like XIII said, Your frame is sorted by your round so all you gotta do is follow the street names.
It's non stop working too so the time flies by hell quick, be prepared to be sorting mail for 3-4 hours and then delivering for 4-5 hours..You meet a few nice ladies on ya round too
oh...and dont park in front of ya letterboxes ! damn bastards

I believe AP corporate is enjoying the understaffed senario.
It gives them more power against the union for presorted mail so they can make all the runs bigger and delivery only posties. Hope you enjoy delivering for 6 hrs plus soon

I was thinking of being a postie as a summer job, its either that or something in construction. I was thinking of working full time for 3 months. Would be very keen to know more about the requirements as i would be 17 years old and with 2 months on my P's by start of summer.
Does that fulfill the requirements or I gotta be 18 and have held the license for a year or something of the sort?

^^^^ I did the same thing last summer but it was only for 1 month. Over christmas they need as many posties as they can get so you shouldn't have any trouble getting a job. I had only had my license for a month and a half when I did that.
I highly recommend you do it. The pay is awesome (I made about $1000 a week). I might even do it again this year.

12 weeks @1000pw - Tax????
You'd be scraping but you should be able to get a second hand one... Or at worst (Depending on how well you save money) a nice 5/6 grand 250....

Yeah tax was a bitch. Like 200 a week/fortnight or something. Sometimes more sometimes less. But the 1000 p.w was after tax. And because I only worked there for like 4 weeks I get it all back. Great success.
