02WTK-How cautious are you with speed?

Well then, got my R class last monday and have been on the hornet everyday since. Im finding myself being a lot more cautious with my speed on the bike than in the car though. Im really trying to stick to the exact speed limit (damn electro speedo) whereas in the car 5km over doesnt really bother me so much. I think i have it in my head that since im on a motorbike im more likely to be the one who gets done for speeding rather than the cars.

Just last night i was pulled over for a breath test and licence check even though while i was doing the speed limit (60) others were passing me.

So i want to know, how cautious are you with your speed in built up/city areas on the motorbike compared to your cage?

not very. faster is better. keep an eye in ur mirrors, if someone is catching u, get away or change roads. only need to worry about rear facers, but rego disks will fix that. just make sure u can put it back up while riding, u dont want mr plod to pull up behind u and have ur plate covered.

edit: i dont mean ridiculously fast, i just like to move through the traffic. i dont like cars passing me, i preffer to be in control.

I'm the opposite, more chance of getting done in a car by multanovas cos of front and rear plates, and I refuse to get done for speeding in a cage, it's just not worth it... my sense of fun does not increase with speed in a cage, it does on a bike. If I get done, it'll be on the bike... could be anything, including hoon lawed, but I tend to keep a lid on it... mostly 10-20 over.

LOL @ Murley, yeah I will always keep it in a zippered pocket, double bagged just incase.

But srs, usually under hoon law, 10-20 over when Im commuting, less If the drivers around me seem competent, more if im surrounded by idiots (95% of the time), alot more if I'm up for some fun.
In the car ill go 5-10 over

In the car around the city, usually limit or maybe 5 over on a clear road. In the country, up to 10 over, just enough so that Im not bunching up in traffic.
On a bike? Well, considering my lack of time on a bike, I couldnt answer that yet. So far, limit or maybe +5, but that could change wildly.

I find keeping rigidly to the speed limit can get dangerous, i like to be just a little faster than the rest of the traffic, makes it easier to keep out of their way.

Like all things, time and place. In my car, I stick to speed limits at all times, (no licence would equal no job for me).
When I'm riding by myself, I also take it pretty easy.

I do 10-20km over and make sure it is under hoon law territory if I can help it.

If I stick to the speed limit, I get overtaken by grandmas driving a Mazda 121 every single *ucking time. They ALL speed!

Having said that, I normally stick to the speed limit religiously at known speed camera/hairdryer spot.

Yeah bike I'm always speeding... Just try to keep and eye for rear facers, car usually over, but not by asmuch... Depending what I need to do, I'm almost always early because I allow normal travel times, then find I cant sit on the speed limit, its just boring...

If this is of any help, I do not have a speedo on my bike, so I have no way of telling how fast im actually going, which is great, because then i dont feel bad about my speed, because i dont know what it is.

It gets a bit risky when you ride past a hairdryer though, i usually slow right down to some stupid speed so there is no way im speeding, but then i get some funny looks from cops.

I actually enjoy riding without the speedo, you feel less restricted in a way, i ride as fast as i feel is safe.

I must admit to being way worse in the forby....get to comfortable and the foot gets a little heavey...luckily I have 4 ppl who remind me all the time to slow down. On the bike it depends where I am...no traffic? fast...traffic, I am cautious.

I do the generally do 20 over. Good way to be at the front of all cars. Being at the same or lower speed than cagers doesn't seem safe to me.

I MIGHT do a little bit over every now and again on the bike

    (however as I have a 250- it's hardly likely I'm going TOO fast! )

I rarely drive these days though, but when I do I TRY to stick to the speed limit
it just seems SO slow in a cage....

I'm a little cautious with speed on the bike (usually after wrapping it on to pick a gap), but not glued to the speedo.

Get your eyes up and on traffic, you'll live longer.

Not saying, go do 200km/h through peak hr.... but ride to the conditions, rather than trying to sit on xxx km/h and have people fuck you up...

I try not to look at the speedo too much, but i just seem to think im going to get busted for doing 10kms over
probably due to the fact that my hornet is loud compared to the old vtr and i fell like i stick out like dogs balls haha

WTS^^^ - really - good technique to learn...

Eyes-up means that full awareness of what is going on around you is more likely; also means that your choice of speed is more about manoeuvring relative to the traffic and the conditions rather than speed signs.

The idea is to be in control, own your part of the road, have somewhere to go at all times, and just generally have all the choices you need available to you...
