Alrighty, not sure if this is the place to post this and I reckon it should be a sticky.

After conversations with many people and occassionally scratching my own head, I think that this should be the place to list them.
The technical writer in me, the one that says that the first time an acronym is used in a document it should be proceeded by the full version of what it means, screams that there should be an index somewhere on this site of what they mean.

So I will list a few that come to mind and if others can add their little pearls of wisdom and a mod can tidy the thread up by putting them in a list in this first post I think that would be peachy.

If however this is already covered elsewhere in a sticky can someone put a link to it, Ta.

LOL - laugh out loud
ROFLMOL - roll on floor laughing madly out loud
DILLIGAF - do I look like I give a F***
WTF - what the F*** / Working Towards First
WTK - want/ed to know
LMAO - laughing my ass off
MILF - Mum I'ld Like to F***
NFI - No F***ing Idea
IMHO - In my Humble Opinion
SNAFU - Situation normal all f***ed up
FUBAR - f***ed up beyond all recognition
WOFTAM - waste of f***ing time and money
IIRC - if I recall correctly
PMSL - pissing my self laughing
EFTWOF - every f***ing time with out fail
FTW - f***ing time wasters
BFD - big f***ing deal
RTFM - read the f***ing manual
IANAL - I am not a Lawyer
CRAFT - can't remember a f***ing thing
BTW - by the way

Ok it is late and I am too tired to think of more so go to town peeps and add your pearls of wisdom here.
I live in my own little world, but it's OK they know me here

I like this one from the Urban Dic. note an acronym but still...;

aibohphobia

The irrational fear of palindromes (words that read the same forwards and backwards).

example

Dude 1: Hey, what's your name?
Dude 2: Bob.
Dude 1: AAAAAAAAAAH! *Runs and hides behind sofa*
Bob: Wow.
Dude 1: AAAAAAAAAAH! *Runs away and falls down stairs*

wifive

Short for Wireless High-Five, used when you want to give a friend a high-five, but you are further then arms reach from each other. It doesn't involve any physical contact.

example

Benj: That $30 burger from Maccas was teh pwnz
Timmy: Wifive!

With the TRG in perth (the tactical response group for those who don't know), from what I've heard were originally going to be called the Fast Action Response Team. now, imagine that acronym on the side of a truck.

my final whore of this thread;

porn

1.
The best thing in the world

If all the Arab terrorists would stop strapping themselves with explosives for just a moment and go check out some porn, they'd find a new lease on life and we could all get along!

2.
the reason you need a new hard drive.

dude, how do you find all that porn.

3.
The traditional way for young female Americans to afford university education (those not from wealthy families).

America is the land of opportunity - everyone can succeed if they are willing to involved themselves in some porn to get their university education.

etc etc etc, there are plenty more definitions if you can be bothered reading them.

I was told a number of years ago that when WAIT became Curtin University of Technology, it was originally supposed to be Curtin University of New Technology.

must be an age thing but I can remember the debate in the newspaper on that one, and so many people couldn't understand what the acronym meant.

There were still references to Curtin's building 314 (Maths and Comp Sci) as the Curtin University New Technology building when i was there. Oddly appropriate really...
