reward. I got suspended when i was in year 9, i was going to a boarding school in sydney and my mum was running a ski lodge in perisher blue. 2weeks of riding snow mobiles, underage drinking, skiing everyday, shagging a 25yr old. I ended up turning that 2 weeks into 2 school terms and the deal was that i had to repeat school. Mind you i was on call 24/7 to pick up supplies/make beds/clean rooms/serve food and do the dishes.
and i had a night job also washing dishes.
It was the best time of my life. It was that time that i knew i had to get out and start working, but i did go back and finished yr 11.

and every other time i was threatend with suspension i would think 'sweet, lots of work to be done on the farm, better than being here'.

Haven't read the replies so someone may have already said this.

Whether or not suspension is an effective detterent depends entirely upon the childs parents. My parents made me prefer school to suspension, and towards the end of year 12, my week long suspension put me fairly behind with me TEE courses. So yes I agree with it in most cases, where the parents give a toss. However I was severely pissed off for the final week long suspension, and still disagree with it, on the basis that my teacher is a cunt.

For some of my friends however, their parents didn't even like the deputies/principals etc and when the child rebelled, they saw it as defending their parents honour and rewarded them. In that case, the deputy shouldn't be dumb enough to suspend the kid unless absolutely necessary, and find other ways to make his/her life miserable for a day or three. In situations like this, the cane is pretty much the only solution, and even then a pretty weak one.

To summarise, cunty kids are going to be cunty kids, and they either mature or turn into the scum of Australia. Good kids are going to turn into drug addicts and party holics, drop out of uni and suck cock for a living. You just can't win

PSB - It doesn't matter how right you are. If you aren't in with the crowd who thinks they are the in crowd because they post a lot, then you are wrong.

When My kids were going to school, the Really naughty Kids in Class were sent on Camps. ( Punishment) LOL
The Good kids often wondered if they decided to be bad would they go on these camps as well.
And they werent bad camps either. Antisocial behaviour usually starts at Home.
    Kids learn from their Families.
The parents who care are 99% of the time NOT the ones who's kids are being Arsewipes.
I had a neighbour with 7 kids who were All Feral. Never went to School or were always Suspended and She didnt Bat an eyelid. Welfare used to just go there and give her food vouchers and make sure the kids were being fed.
They should have spent the money on teaching her Motherhood and her Kids the basic skills of being a part of Society.

IMHO it depends on the parents. For me, the response of my parents would have been a far greater concern than the school.

So, if the parents couldn't give a rats, then it's probably not a very useful 'punishment'. It seemed that typically the kids who get suspended a lot at my school, had parents that fitted into this category.
No amount of genius can overcome a preoccupation to detail.

    Suspension is not a deterrent.

My son was suspended for 3 days in GRADE 1 for climbing on a road grader that was parked on the verge at the school.

No notice to me of course and I had no one to care for him back then so I had to have 3 days off work. Couldn't tan his arse, told him no TV and he had to spend the days in his room.

He got suspended a couple of more times in primary school, he used to agree it was a holiday from school. He did well with his studies but he was bored and played up. He knew the worse that would happen is he didn't have to go to school and his dad and I would be shat off with him.

Go ahead and play the blues if it'll make you happy.

Suspension is the system's way of preventing every teacher from leaving the job because it's just not worth putting up with that kind of crap day in day out - it has nothing to do with disciplining the kids.
