So I'm traveling to New Zealand early next year and will be taking my iPad for GPS & Internet etc

Is it as simple as going into a phone shop and getting a prepaid sim card (like I have now) so I don't have roam charges etc ?

Thanks in advance for helping a techno Luddite again
It's better to be thought stupid than open your mouth and remove all doubt

Pure speed in sixth gear on a 5,000 foot straightaway is one thing, but pure speed in third gear on a gravel-strewn, downhill, ess turn is quite another.

yep when you land just buy a Telco dongle thingy just like the Telstra one here, cost me around $80 and did me for the 3 weeks we were there, there are other brands like Vodafone etc as well.

Be aware though that some places don't have very good reception, I didn't find out till later I could have gotten WFI with the Campervan we had, oh well live and learn

But you're talking iPad stuff I'm not sure, I just had my mini laptop, I bought an NZ sim for my phone, shouldn't have, should have just bought a phone card and used theirphone booths, heaps of them around

I think getting the pre-paid sim is the best bet, since only for a data connection right? Just check what the limit is. Otherwise, rape every unsecured WiFi point you can

We were paying $29 for 2 gb with virgin lasts for 30 days, now we get free wifi over the back fence at 34mbps.
Faster than what we were paying for, so all good.
