    CSWTK - Blood sport?

So, (sorry agrid) the silly execution thread by McGoo has prompted me to post an awesome thread. With a pole.

Let's be honest. One of the bestest bits of watching AFL is not the speed, skill, agility, coordination or training of these superb athletes. It's the fights. Most now pretend to be all "oh no, that's just not on" because of the filthy little PC fagparade but inside we're all (?) transported back to the playground and the chant of "FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT". No wonder that movies like "Fight Club" are so popular, they call something dark inside us and for a little while we can be comfortable with that. No wonder UFC is so popular, despite its glitzy fakeness.

Now think of the old colosseum / gladiator style entertainment. Not the way they did it - slaves getting butchered - but more in the style of athletes being extremely well paid to go out and find who can beat the guts out of the other. Or of rollerball. Or of WAFL 20 years ago.

Depending, of course, on the boundaries - who would or wouldn't go to watch a 'game' at least once? Would it make a difference if it was to first blood or thunderdome style "two men enter, one man leaves"? Would you participate as a contestant?

Like a bit of UFC action. Not down for people killing themselves and others to entertain me though.
Gutsy question. You're a shark. Sharks are winners, and they don't look back because they have no necks. Necks are for sheep.

I enjoy those mad recreations on shows like Ultimate warrior where a group of SS soldiers duke it out with some of Ghengis Khan's soldiers. In the real world I enjoy UFC, old Pride fights. Two dudes going balls to wall in a contest of skill, luck and ability until one wins. I'd watch it as long as it was two consenting sports people (note sports people, women fighting can be good viewing too). It's all primal, I think we all enjoy a bit of bloodsport.

Interesting subject - When we all think about it, we all say no, but in most people there is a curiosity there - usually drowned out by reason. However when we enter a pack we usually end up going with the lowest denominator - I.e the person with the least reason. So while almost all of us would not want to see it, put us in the right scenario and we will see it, we will enjoy it. Sad fact...

There was an experiment done by a physchologist in Europe that is quite famous - half of his Uni class were given the tasks of Jailers, the other half were to be prisoners and he was to be the Warden. It was supposed to last a couple of months. What ended up happenning was the Jailers started abusing/beating the prisoners, the practice became widespread so that even the 'warden' started participating. In the end the police were called in and most of the jailers and the warden ended up in prison. I cannot remember if there were any deaths, but it was a really bad for the prisoners...

Whats the point? If anything he proved that there is a bit of bad in almost everyone that can come out given the right scenario - If you have one mate who thinks bloodsport is alright he could convince you to like it - if you have five, there is next to no doubt they could influence you to go and watch - and maybe enjoy it...

Make knees to the head of a downed opponent a Legal move in UFC and introduce a yellow-card system(like PRIDE used to use) and judge the winner based on who was closest to finishing their opponent...that's all that is required.
I love a good brawl but I want to see a great warrior make it to retirement...not leave the field in a box.

That's the synopsis of Das Experiment, later remade as The Experiment. A real similar experiment was carried out in the US, The Standford Experiment. No one was arrested, urban legend.

This all ties in nicely with my Psychopathy hypothetical and the Warrior gene.

I watched the remake not too long ago. Somewhat predictable, but very good subject for thought.

See now I was going to click would participate to first blood, but it doesn't take much to make my nose bleed so the contest wouldn't take very long...

There's fights in AFL? More like the occasional jumper bitch slap.

^^I am from then. The random violence was one of the reasons I stopped playing Aussie rules 35 years ago.

I am a big boxing fan but dont really have much time for UFC / MMA. I just think boxing is a cleaner sport. Would definitely watch some more but only to first blood, its a sport which is for entertainment, killing people for this is going way too far
Men have motorcycles while women have mensutral cycles, you can't talk to either while they are on it. The women's also has a sound, it goes nag-na-nag-nag-nag, biiiiiitch-bitch-biiiiiiiitch!

I reckon boxing, UFC and other similar bollock is lame. Generally they all look and sound like a pair of Maylands thugs trying to out-bogan each other.

Would not watch, would not participate.
