I joined up to the first pre-paid option available in Australia, around 1998-99. It was from Optus, and the phone cost $200. I had it for about 3 months before the SMS option became available.

I really can't remember back that far now, i know one i had as a teen was the Nokia 3210, i think my dad still has his old analog telsta Mobile, man that thing was a brick

I even had the big 18 hour stand by battery for it...

I believe it held a massive 20 numbers in the contacts...

It was actually a good phone and took a beating. Wasn't too big and clunky...

nokia 1630 in 1996 kept it for a few years only upgraded it because my SMS messages started coming through as 2 or 3 seperate messages when friends with newer phones sent over 160 characters, not like my phones now that don't even outlast a 2 year payment option.
