Straight roads are for fast bikes - corners are for fast riders!

Went to look at the Yellow CRX again, I want to like it but can'tIts a shame causr it has all the good (mechanical) bits done but I would have to Ricify it to make it look better which I don't want to do. Was thinking carbon bonnet with pins, small spoiler and subtle body kit. and a tint. Also the Type R Recaros
need retrimming and a new steering wheel. Not what u want to do to if ur putting down over $10K on an old car like this one.
For the same price I can buy a very good NA MX-5 and supercharge the bastard! Looking to start competing in Motorkhana events and maybe a hillclimb or two down the line. This Sunday there is a Motorkhana 'come and try' day which my work Lancer and my wifes MR-S will cop a flogging. If its something that I want to do on a regular basis I will need to buy a car suitable for it.

Yeah its the colour bro, wrong choice of colour totaly, really spoils the car,
another thing you can look at is a Pulsar GTR you can pick them up for under 10k and are very reliable with the SR20 and 4wd, they are a true pocket rocket, in black they look shit hot,
just somthing else to confuse you, lol
RR

No dramas Bro, I did look at a GTiR, but I didn't trust the bloke selling it. It was supposed to be fully worked but he didn't have any recipts and was vague about who did the work and he had only owned the car 3 months. They hammer allright but chew though gearboxes and can have other dramas if modded and/or driven hard. I want the car I buy to be reliable and (reasonably) economical. As I also have two bikes to keep on the road. If money was no issue I would find the best RX-7 I could find, bomb it and have several back-up motors . . .or a Lotus Elise SC.

What's an RX-8 go for these days? 15? 20? I reckon they'd be quite a lot of fun and look cool too. I found the MX-5 to be a blast when I got the chance to drive one, fantastic car. CRX's are teh gay IMHO. In fact, the vast majority of all FWD cars are teh gay, with the good or better ones being the rare exception. Something like the XR5 would probably be my pick if I had to have a FWD hoon box.
Still, better to do your hooning on the bike, get a track toy (or just convert your RS) and trailer for less than you'd get something to go do MK or hill climbs of the 4 wheel variety.

I don't mind RX-8's and have driven a few but they do feel like a 'compromise' vehicle, and I want a proper sports car. And from being in the Rotary scene for ages you are always worried that the motor will go bang (which they do)
I just sold my 4WD Jeep which was never getting used so have the cash ready to buy the Toyoya 86 if I want, dunno if I want to wait that long tho - may get something like and older MX-5/CRX to fill the gap. S2000's are still fairly pricey.
Don't want to track either of my bikes dur to their condition and they getting rare and collectable and I'm very likely to bin them - and possibly me - if I do.

If you are thinking about doing the whole motorkana thing, have you looked at a small french hatchback like a Clio RS or a 205/206 Gti?
You could pick up a very good one for around 10 grand and from a pure handling point of view, they are easily equal if not superior to a CRX/Civc R. Engines are also a lot less revy/more tourquey than their Japanese cousins, so a little better suited to tearing around cones on a skid pan.

I must add though, parts can be a bitch. I've put a nice vertical crack in my pug's windscreen which is covered by my insurance. The downside? None in the country, 6-8 weeks to get one from France. This has been a common theme in the past 7 odd years of French ownership.
What Pug?
The olds had a 405 Mi16 which was pretty sweet (for it's time)
My wife thinks there a great car !!
Here, here!
You want a car for the track and you care what it looks like? Can you imagine Alonso saying "sorry the car might be quickest out there, but its butt ugly so I refuse to drive it"
If you want a competitive track car, buy a competitive track car not something to be seen in.
Def a fan on the CRX, moreso the older ones - not sure if i could pot around in something bright yellow though.
They're great for power to weight, nothing beats a nippy hatch/coupe for suberb bashes.
I was looking in the vicinity of honda but bought a Nissan NX coupe instead 6 or 7 years ago and she still treats me fine, mild tune - dyno'd 120hp - targa roof - hits 1/4 mile in 15.5 (yeah so not blisteringly quick but on the day the Honda Integra type r's were only pulling a second quicker and they've 147kw vs 106kw and over $10K more - not wanting to get in any nissan vs honda shitfights here they're both great cars)
Engine/chassis has now done about 260KMS and still runs fine - SR20DE is still in quite a few cars (SSS pulsar up to '99 model i think) so may be worth a look in as they're going hellava cheaper these days then any of the hondas - plenty of turbo engines to transplant if you were that way inclined however i get wheelspin in 3rd in the wet so i never bothered - wanted to put a nice lumpy cam in it but could never justify it.
Failing that if you ever come across a Suzuki Alto Works be sure to get your hands on it - AWD 800cc turbo should be mildly entertaining one would hope
