    JWTK - WEBER Q BBQ's

    Ok.

So whats the deal with the Weber Q barbies? Are they as good as people say they are?

Im in the market for a 4 burner, yet every review/comment/slander I read is always along the lines of "its good, but not quite as good as the food from the weber"

The cost of the unit is a fair bit higher than a conventional bbq, and I dont want to take a blind leap of faith based on the opinion of a few people on a bbq forum.

Im looking at the 200/220 series at the moment, but just cant justify the expense without having seen (or tasted) the results before.

Anyone got one and care to share?

NAH! There crap!!!! Go the 4 burner, with the hood and the wok cooker on the side. Maybe a warmer rack under the hood.

Give up on barbies all together and move up to flavour country.

If you havent had a spit then you have no idea about anything in life.

It takes about 4 hours for a kilo but that is the perfect amount of time to drink beer.

    $99 from Bunnings.

I will have one at the EBB for the PSB crew if anyone is keen for it.

It's all personal preference - my father-in-law cooks big pork and beef joints in his Weber, they fucking rock. My understanding is that it takes a bit more effort/practice to get them to cook well though.

But that's not to say you can't cook a good joint in another BBQ.

From what I understand its a bit of a mindset change from being able to see and interact with the food versus closing the lid and trusting the weber to do its thing.

I quite enjoy cooking, and from what I understand the weber is quite easy to be able to try a host of new things (which is one of the main reasons I am considering it)

We have a webber Q200. It is a great little thing, especially when you feel like an impromtu steak (it takes about 10min to warm up and doesnt use much gas)

    It definately cooks well.

If you plan on cooking roasts buy the roasting trevett (optional accessory).

(Note: I dont actually use it, I just operate the oven to cook chips to go with the steak. The steak monster loves it)

I used to be a Weber Specialist Retailer a few years ago. We used to do demonstrations out the front of the shop & the Q range is awesome. I had the pick of our shop (not just Weber) & I've got the 220 at home. Give me the Pepsi challenge any time & I'll tell you which was cooked in the Weber.

I have a large 6 burner bbq with side burner and built in spit, and it is awesome, does the best roasts.

Having said that, I just bought a portable bbq yesterday to go with our camper van.
I too was looking at the weber q range, and I spent a week researching it, as well as its competitors.

I ended up buying the e2go grill by everdure. Here is why.

If you like your steaks rare, the weber q cannot do it, only medium and above (this is a known thing with weber q's).
The weber q has to be cooked with the lid down, the e2go can be cooked with lid down or up as it can reach higher temps. So you can cook on it like a normal bbq.
The hotplate on the weber q 200 (Or 220) is the same size as my e2go grill, but because the weber lid is so contoured, you lose a lot of space on both sides. My e2go let's me use the whole plate since the lid has vertical sides.
Also because of the vertical sides, i can fit much larger roasts, and bigger roasting trays so I can do more veggies etc.
The side trays on the 220 weber are very flimsy, and would not hold a plate of meat. My e2go has solid side trays that will hold anything.

Agree but I have found if there is a bit of breeze around the wok doesn't wok properly.

I've done a few roasts under the hood and they are unreal, just throw them in in a tray and take out after and hour and a bit.

A couple of my mates have the 220 I think and they use it just like a normal BBQ.

I can taste no difference in steak or sausages cooked on a weber q compared to a normal BBQ.

They are just smaller portable gas BBQ's.

This, we have the mid sized one and it does just as good a job as a 'normal' BBQ with the added bonus of it being compact enough to chuck into the car or camper trailer for going away or whatever. They're well made too.

We had a Weber kettle BBQ years ago that did a kick ass job of cooking roasts etc, but farting around with the heat beads and the long heat up time saw the novelty wear off after a while.

Those comments only really relate to the traditional Webber kettle style bbq. They are great for roasts.

The Webber Q is different and is really just like any other bbq with a hood. They're fine but they're nothing special and not worth the high price IMO.

If you want it for slow cooking roasts, then you want an old school charcoal webber. If you want a funky looking regular bbq with a hotplate and a hood, then the Q fit in that market.

I have one of these ceramics - stupidly expensive, but I use it about 3 or more times a week (ie, gotta be able to justify it ).

    KJOELR_SS.2947.jpg

Works as a pizza oven, smoker, grill, and roaster. Cook at very low temps for hours on one batch of charcol, or sear steak at over 400 degrees. Should last forever too.... Heats up fast, and when you close up all the vents the remaning charcol goes out and you just relight it next time.

The Qs are handy, but I have found the steaks to be on the overdone side.

For a BBQ go a regular 4 burner with hood it's cheaper and just as useful, if you're going to buy a webber buy a proper one and go charcoal.
Gutsy question. You're a shark. Sharks are winners, and they don't look back because they have no necks. Necks are for sheep.

I purchased a beefeater stainless BBQ a few months ago, we cook everything on it, including stir fry on the wok, toast, baked beans (to go with my bacon and eggs!, pop the lid and chuck the tin on the grill for a few), lovin it!, also I got the stone pizza cooking things with it as well, and the smoking tray, and the rotisserie ! Highly recommended.

I've had one for about 10 years. Its worked really well and looks great on the outside but my burners, vaporizers and grill need replacing. Reasonably cheap from memory. The El Shitto bbq have hot plates about a mm thick that can't hold heat and make your stuff taste like its been stewed.

The weird thing is that I ran a pipe down to mine and use town gas, my mate has the same unit running of a cylinder and it just doesn't seem to work as well.
