Keep or Remove - Likes System - Please vote

Please vote to keep or remove the likes system

    --

The likes system allows users to thank a user for their post, this can be used to replace agree/yes/like type single word posts or to let the poster know you found their post valuable.

The like feature is available in the bottom right corner of each post on the forum, just click "like".

I 'like' the like feature, but having the Liked count under a users name seems a bit wanky to me

Like the idea, but as 7/8th said, get rid of the field in the profile, and also those notifications. They're almost as bad as getting one when you quote somebody.

I'm jealous Barfy has 147 likes and I've only got 44. I shall have a rant or summat...

Agree with 7/8 & Barfy - keep the Like system but get rid of the Like "count" under the user names. Only a matter of time before it becomes another "rep" system.

likes/rep is always a recipe for circle jerking, drama and whatnot.

I think keeping the bit in the profile so you can see where you were liked is good but not the counter under the user's avatar, it just makes me feel inadequate. Overall though I like the idea.

Pro: Nice to know who is agreeing with you and get an idea of concensus for your idea, and who enjoyed a good belly-laugh.

Con: Keeping a tally under the avatar favours the more frequent poster and doesn't always reflect the quality of the post, e.g. likes that are given ironically to people who post how much they hate the like feature, likes given to a mate because they're posting about going on a ride you're going on, likes given about the event written, not the way it was written.

It would be like everybody liking me (and adding to my count) just because I was the person who first posted that Rob Johnson had been in a freak gardening accident. That hardly makes me an asset to the forum (unless I caused the accident, now that's another story)

Dislikes have also been suggested, but they could also be miscontrued by their ultimate use, e.g. a user sympathises with and dislikes hearing of the misfortune of their mate - responding to comments such as "no longer in, bike broken", "my kids are really crook at the moment".

It's not actually disagreeing with or disliking the opinion or suggestion of the user, so not a fair representation.

Keep the likes, remove the e-penis measurement likes count

In terms of feedback without fear or favour, I would love to have the yellow sticker tab viewable for all users.

I like the like. I like the score on your profile too. Possibly it will get some of the brain-fart posters to put a bit more thought into posts or at least make them more funny. Possibly not.

If you're going to have a like feature then you have got to bring in a dislike feature too.

I won't use the like button until there is a dislike button. I should be able to acknowledge a good/funny/informative post as well as let someone know they are being a fuckwit without getting barfied!
Cant have one without the other like salt & pepper, ham & cheese, yin & yang, bacon & eggs etc....

It's entirely possible to "let someone know they are being a fuckwit without getting barfied" and has been done before. You just need to be a little more wordy about it and less directly insulting. Also, I think it's unfair to call receiving an infraction "getting barfied", he's not the only one handing out yellows and you make it sound like he's just an arsehole.

Deb summed it up nicely for me, saved me thinking too hard, keep the like, get rid of the count.
It's not a popularity contest and those poor souls who need to be loved will just go back to their posts to check anyway.
No need for a dislike button, liking a post is one thing, no need to elucidate but I think a dislike should be put into words so the recipient of your venom knows why.
    Please like this post folks
