ermmm if you read the laws you have quoted, you will see by putting them all together that:

YOU CAN LEGALLY OVERTAKE A MOVING VEHICLE IN THE SAME LANE ON ITS RIGHT HAND SIDE PROVIDED YOU DO NOT CROSS A SOLID WHITE LINE!

IT IS ILLEGAL TO OVERTAKE A MOVING VEHICLE ON ITS LEFT HAND SIDE IN THE SAME LANE!

IT IS LEGAL TO OVERTAKE A STATIONARY VEHICLE ON EITHER SIDE PROVIDED YOU DO NOT CROSS A SOLID WHITE LINE!

THUS LANE SPLITTING IS LEGAL AS LONG AS YOU DO IT ON THE RIGHT OF THE MOVING VEHICLE[/b]
we are not discussing legalities. we are discussing which option you would do.

    kthnx.

What if you ride ON a solid white line the whole way to the front?

Seeing that cagers' attitudes will directly influence general road safety and the wellbeing of riders, is it worth scrapping lane splitting altogether to give cagers a sense of equal footing?

Should we take the high moral ground (although we will be inconvinienced) to perhaps change things for the better? Or are we happy to maintain the status quo and get pissed off everytime we get agro from a cager? would this sort of 'stalemate' ever produce any results?[/b]
    No.

Go the other way, rally for it to be made explicitly legal (or, put into law that cars must give way to bikes) and encourage more people to ride.

That would be better for the environment, better in terms of traffic congestion, etc.

If they want a sense of equal footing, they can get an equal form of transport. I'm quite sure they get pissed if they get cut up by a truck, or expect a truck to let them past when it's holding all the car drivers up, pass cyclists in the same lane, etc? No different... smaller/faster accelerating class of vehicle should be let past.
    stuff

This is something that needs to be addressed, and solved properly, with the constantly increasing number of scooter riders in Perth you would think that it would naturally follow that a number of those scooters will eventually graduate tot bigger bikes. However how mant times do you see scooters lane filtering to the front. Lets remember that lane splitting is different to filtering to the front of a stationary line of vehicles.
sorry if thats already been mentioned.
I agree with Thro though, encourage more people to ride will ease congestion and for every new rider x number of people are also exposed to riding first hand, all their family and friends might suddenly think twice about cutting off a bike, is that my mate/brother/son/that bastard from the office next door?

Split/filtered past 2 cop cars the other day (1 unmarked, one marked). The unmarked, i ended up parked directly next to his driver's door at the lights.

Neither of them seemed concerned in the slightest.

Did make sure to stay only 2-3km/h over the limit when i took off in front of the unmarked tho

So yeah, will continue to do so till i get pinged for it....
