wow! amazing! it would be an injustice not to revive the watch to its former glory. I would love to have something like that restored to an original working state so it can be handed down to the next generations!

I would rather keep it as is....

Small world - looks the same model as the one I got last year for my birthday. I do like this watch, although after 6 months the face is looking decidedly secondhand: next time I'll be making sure that the face is good crystal. I agree about the rather horrid rubber strap. I ended up buying a Waterborne cloth strap: they are a fairly sturdy double strap setup designed so that you don't lose the watch if one pin breaks.

It does work, and keeps exceptional time for it's condition. I've had a quote for it to be restored (paint the face, polished glass, new original crown and new seals) as well as calibrated and that would come in at a little over $800, then I would need a new leather band instead of the taiwan special that's on there now. But...
This ^^

i like option one, but its very frank muller-esque, i think for your line of work, sapphire glass is a must

We have a winner!

Sapphire glass, blue hands on white, I just didn't like the chromed numbers on the black faced one. Power reserve + date, it's perfect.

my tag is officially giving me the shits. it has a new battery, but it just randomly stops. then i tap it and it works again.
it hasn't been the same after it got damaged in my off, but i'm nervous about how much the repair bill will be.
it has a bit of gravel rash.
i think you mentioned your tag was a formula 1? i think it could be a writeoff as repairs may cost more than replacement.
you can get used tag formula 1 for quite a good price these days too, so that may be an optionor take it as an opportunity to upgrade!

might just get it serviced to check the internals are ok and then keep it as a reminder to always wear gloves and/or not crash.
i can get some parts from this place. http://watchpart.co.uk/tag-heuer-m-40.html

Or don't wear an expensive watch when riding. Some say don't wear a watch or jewelry at all when riding due to the increased risk of being injured. We have all heard stories of people who have lost fingers or been degloved from rings snagging on things - imagine what a watch could do.

I can't imagine those little spring pins that hold the strap in an expensive watch would be much stronger than in cheaper watches, and they all seem to break pretty quickly with too much force.
My everyday G-Shock was ripped clean off my arm in that little incident out the back of Toodyay. It came off so easily, I didn't even realise it had gone missing.

You are probably right. Having said that, I have smashed 3 watches over the years in bike crashes and on one of those occasions, I did get some abrasions on my wrist from the metal watch bracelet. Nothing too serious in the scheme of things I admit - but that's why I said "some people say...".
My main reason for not wearing a watch nowadays when riding is that I wear a nice watch and don't want to smash a fourth watch. Besides, I figure if I don't wear a watch, maybe I won't crash!

Well, I went looking for Seiko Kinetic Perpetuals at Changi in Singapore, but the only ones they had were the Premier series, which were a little out of my price range at the time. Back to Ebayazon.

Just purchased option #1 above, I just won't wear it to work, or will take it off when I'm doing physical stuff. I decided it wasn't worth spending an extra $90 on a watch I didn't like as much, just because it's got sapphire glass.
Now to play the waiting game...coming here via Perth will take a little while.
