    MDSWTK: Kleenmaid Oven Repairers?

    Hi all,

My grandma's oven had just died, the parentals seem to think it may be an electrical problem due to electrical burning smells. It's a kleenmaid something or other (can get more details soon when mother dearest gets home from work). As the company has gone bust parts are mighty expensive and to call a repair man out will cost almost a squillion dollars. I don't mind forking out cash for my grandma as she had done so much for me, but if anyone could help at all we would all be very appreciative.

    Thanks

It shouldn't cost squillions to repair, depending how old it is. There really isn't alot that can go wrong. Most replacement parts for stove/oven and whatnot are aftermarket anyways.
If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was money well spent...

They're asking around $260 for a guy to come out JUST TO LOOK AT IT then on top of that it he doesn't have that part they want around $140 PER 15 MINUTES when he comes back to install it. Then there is the cost for the part too. It's robbery!

The $260 +parts is about right, pulling ovens apart is a gawdawful job. 140 each 15mins is a bit rich.

Hmmmm, perhaps we'll just have to deal with this one as it is. I wouldn't know what's involved with pulling apart an oven but that sort of money seems ridiculous.

It's only because ovens really are aweful, especially if they're a bit older. Whilst they look clean on the outside, you'd be amazed at where oven scum can get. I still shudder at the thought of some of them I've worked on...

It's a new-ish model, mid 2000's off the top of my head. Poor grandma, what is a woman supposed to do without an oven? There is only so much laundry you can do in a day.

i haz Kleenmaid. good quality, expensive stuff.
but yes, it's not cheap to repair, or quickly to get parts either.

after Kleenmaid went bust, the contractors that did the service became free to charge whatever they liked as they were no longer paid by Kleenmaid for their work.
