Seems to be a few pass and fail threads from people having sat the RE test, but we dont hear much about anyone failing the R test (and why/how?)...
Yes - Turns out monos ARE illegal!

Well if you've done your time on your RE you shouldn't fail, though there have been a couple I guess they keep it quite, I'm not dobbing in anyone, it is usually either a confidence thing with those who fail or the Assessor taking a dislike to someone's attitude![]()
Yes they expect that you can ride - imagine re-doing your cage licence test a year after you got your licence - it would be a breeze, similarly, the don't test you on anything new for R class. I think it's more going thru the motions because they have to... If you don't pass your R class I'm inclined to think either had a really bad f*&k up or just a bad day. My assessor took me on a very short route cos within seconds he assessed I could ride, took me onto a side street did e-brake and o-turns and straight back to base.
R-E is harder by comparison cos you're still a n00b and worrying about both nerves and riding a bike.. and the assessor is scrutinising more carefully to see if you're going to kill yourself, or anyone else... if you've survived a year and you're going for R class, chances are, you're doing alright... you then only have the nerves to worry about by the time you R class, cos you can obviously ride a bike.
Edit: I too am awesome![]()

I am teh awesome.
I managed to not ride once (on the road) between my R-E's and R's and still managed to pass... tis pretty easy. R-Es are much harder
A mate failed his R test. Excuse was the road was too narrow to do o-turns on his Ducati ST2. He's been riding it for about 8 years now on his R-E.
I failed for locking up my rear wheel while doing an emergency brake. I had developed a bad habit of going down a gear and with my VTR1000 it just locked up.

I wouldnt have thought they'd fail you for locking up (unless it was an uber lock up) provided you corrected, reapplied and stopped within the required distance. Of course if you didnt stop in the required distance, that'd be the reason for failing, not the actual lockup.
I could be wrong there, but i'd think recovery from a lockup, and still stopping in time would actually be a bloody good skill to demonstrate to the assessor.

1st time awesomeness![]()

Twice.
My fantastic "instructor" told me I didn't weigh enough to do an O turn, so made me hang my entire butt off the left side of the bike. Hence I couldn't reach the rear brake (and looked like a total retard).
Changed instructors and passed 1st time.

R test was easy as. Was out for under 10 min. Quick ride few 'O' turns and that was it![]()

I'm a flirtalicious
Got me license in the UK so I guess it doesn't count, but I failed the bike test first time round. In my defense, I'll point out that I'd torpedoed a bus the previous day and so had dodgy ribs and the after effects of concussion. Under the circumstances, two minor fail points weren't bad.
Once.
Was about to pull out infront of a car I didn't initially see - stopped immediately having gone less than half a metre, but insta-failed... understandable, but it was hardly the open class bike that caused that, ie I could have done exactly the same on a 250.
Passed a week later with no marks off. I was in the office signing the relevent bits of crap and the guy says "Oh hang on, you were supposed to wait a month before you were allowed to rebook.. but we'll pass you as you seem pretty keen to get your license."
I actually found the R test more stressful than the R-E though, I felt totally prepared for the R-E but for the R I wasn't sure if the "how to survive" riding style developed over the past year would conflict with the accepted "how to pass the test" lane placement etc.
Not for individual sale.
+1 for awesomeness![]()

Yeah I passed 24 years ago when it was a K class, though the policeman asked me why I slid it through a few corners and I explained it was the dirt in the middle of the corners and the council should sweep more often. He then showed me his cracked windscreen! This was a country town where they followed you in their car. Cost me a six pack.
They hung a sign up in our town "If you live it up, you won't live it down"-Tom Waits
(was chasing a +2 sign but we dont have one
)
took ~5mins left west perth pulled up somewhere in leederville did everything on the same strip of road then went straight back
assessor didnt even bother writing anything on the test sheet other than i passed
+1 for taking in an instructors bike
makes it harder for them to judge you
theyll always hav pre-conceptions if you take in your own bike regardless of what it is
