MWTK: How do you answer the phone while driving?
Well there is that post about people talking on the phone .. while driving.. or something...
MWTK how you answer your phone while you are driving.
People who don't talk on their phone while driving need not join in.

my phone rolls around in the undertail compartment most of the time.
Usually it answers itself!!!
Sometimes it rings people too!

me: hello, i'm driving can i call you back?
them: oh it wont take long...
me: sorry, gotta go (hang up)
if i dont, they call repeatedly untill i answer, i'm kinda expected to be reachable at all times.
i'd use the headset but with all the messing around connecting and disconnecting it (i'm in and out of the cage a dozen times on average each day), plus the halving of battery life of the phone, it never gets turned on.

I'm not often in the car, but if I am, and it rings, I'll just answer normally and keep it short.
Don't expect a decent conversation though

I take 2 hands off the wheel, and accelerate/brake wildly. I usually put my newspaper down too, its distracting on the phone

waiting for the new Bluetoof kit to be installed into the go-kart. Then I will be totally legal when hooning.
If it's someone I know who's ringing (and it's not business) then I usually come up with a "talk fast it's your money"...or "City Morgue, you kill 'em we chill 'em"... or the most simple one is "Joe's pizzas"..the repsonse then is usually **cough cough** **splutter** "is that....um....is that Steve?"

I either flip it open and yell "DRIVING AARGH!!!!" or put it on speaker and put it on the console/passenger seat.

Might try this one...
Don't answer the phone in the car, because I don't have one anymore... But I used to use a Blueant handsfree speakerphone thingy.
And I do have a bluetooth headset for the helmet, but it never gets used.

I fumble around blindly, drop it in the gap between the console and the seat, steer with my knees whilst i retrieve it, then examine it for scratches, give the screen a quick wipe, look at the number, and then press "speaker" whilst holding it about 3 inches in front of my nose with my right hand so i can gesticulate with my left.
... oh wait thats 50% of perth drivers....

Quite sure you can, 99% of the time. What opened my eyes and stopped me doing it though was that I started a call in one suburb, got off the call in another suburb, and had no fucking recollection of any of the traffic conditions i had passed through on the way there.
Just like I can, and have driven before (when i was younger and stupider) after say 12 beers without incident. Its all good until something unexpected happens...

That happens to me with out the phone convo
Just for the record it is proven that its not holding the phone that distracts the drivers it is the conversation that distracts drivers. So using a hands free is loud speacker is even worse as people relax more and they pay less attention.
Problem is that people put the conversation as a No1 priority and driving No2 and it should be other way around.
