I'm going for Dire Straits too.
Then Paul Simon in 86/87
I think the first band i ever got really passionate about was when i was 14/15 and it was Johnny Diesel and The Injectors.

I think the first band i ever got really passionate about was when i was 14/15 and it was Johnny Diesel and The Injectors.[/quote]
I loved this band, but preferred the The Innocent Bystanders, who reformed into Johnny Deisel and the Injectors.
This was the first live Perth band that I ever really got into, and I still have and play their music
It would be hard to say one particular band, as I listened to so many, but some of the music that I remember from the early days that left an impression on me was from The Who, Cheap Trick, Supertramp, 10cc, Dire Straits, ELO, Fleetwood Mac, Boz Scaggs, Gerry Rafferty, Santana, Eric Clapton, Grace Jones, Talking Heads, The Angels, Pink Floyd, Mental as Anything, Madness, and some Clash
I listened to pretty much anything...

I really liked Dire Straits for a long long time, and Queen will always be my first love, but first time I heard Dragonforce I knew that everything I had had previously was just a crush ;P They are probably the only bands I would actually pay money to own the album, even though I can get it for free by downloading.

Adam & the Ants (saw them in concert in Perth), Sex Pistols, Nina Hagen, Devo & Blondie. The age is really starting to show.

I used to get beaten up by the Sweet, Slade and Bowie fans. Now I just get laughed at.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Crowded House!
First single I bought was - Smash Mouth - All Star when i was 5.
Really like Maroon 5's original album when it came out.
